Born to shine: Nathalie Kelley’s unconventional path to fame

Nathalie Kelley’s road to stardom isn’t the traditional path of the many Aussies who have conquered Hollywood before her. Born in Peru, but raised in Sydney, there were no Home and Away or Neighbours roles to leapfrog off – in fact, no homegrown roles at all.

With her seductive South American looks, she scored her breakout role as Neela in 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift not long after arriving in Los Angeles. We caught up with Nat, recently appointed as an ambassador for luxury brand Bulgari, during a recent return to her home town.

“Australia is the place where I come home to get nourished.”Credit:Jesse-Leigh Elford

Do people in Hollywood realise that you are Australian?

I think I’ve flown under the radar as an Australian because my ethnicity is South American. I’ve always allowed my ethnicity to be kind of open as it allows me to be considered for a wider variety of roles. But I’m proud of growing up in Australia.

Would you live here again?

Australia is a wonderful place to grow up and to live, but you reach a certain place here in your career and you have the choice to stay and be comfortable or move overseas and expand. Either choice is fine. I’d love to move back and work on an Australian project.

You recently got married.

Yes, to a boy from Berowra [north of Sydney]! It’s such a good excuse to come home and reconnect with my Australian roots and all my friends and family here. Australia is the place where I come home to get nourished.

How would you describe your style?

My style has really evolved with the jobs that I’ve taken, and where I am in my life. Three or four years ago I was heavily into sustainable fashion and also comfort, as I was going on a lot of spiritual retreats and hiking. Now my life has expanded to include amazingly lavish parties, like premieres and Bulgari events, so my wardrobe has had to expand to include more red carpet-appropriate clothing.

How do spend your ideal Sunday?

Wake up early and have a tea ceremony – that’s my form of meditation. Then a hike to a secluded beach, possibly clothing optional, to spend the whole day drinking in the sun and enjoying the salt water before topping it off with a beautiful dinner with friends.

Jamie Foxx Had ‘the Best Time’ Deejaying Post-Katie Holmes Split

Deejaying his worries away. Jamie Foxx is not letting his breakup with Katie Holmes stop him from living his best life, as he stepped out to perform a DJ set on Thursday, August 22.

A source revealed to Us Weekly exclusively that Foxx, 51, did a surprise performance celebrating the two-year anniversary of Poppy, a nightclub in West Hollywood. He sang “Happy Birthday” in honor of the venue and mixed in his hit song “Gold Digger.”

The insider noted that Foxx “was having the best time” at the event.

Us Weekly confirmed on Monday, August 19, that the Django Unchained star and Holmes, 40, called it quits after six years together. In March 2015, Us broke the news that the actors secretly struck up a romantic relationship two years prior.

A source told Us that Holmes was the one to end the duo’s long romance. “It has been many years of him stepping out with other women,” the insider noted to Us. “He’s disrespectful and their lives were different. His partying ways don’t fit with hers as she’s focused on raising her daughter and working.”

Shortly after the split was announced, Foxx was rumored to have moved on with singer Sela Vave. The Oscar winner denied all speculation in an Instagram Live session on Wednesday, August 21.

At the time, Foxx noted that he “took her under our wing” as he previously had done with Ed Sheeran, Nick Cannon and Ne-Yo before they rose to stardom. He also stated that Vave is “as young as my daughter,” Corinne Foxx, who is 25.

A source told Us that Vave was not present for Foxx’s DJ set on Thursday. “It was a guys night,” the source continued. “Jamie was singing along to other songs, jumping on the mic emceeing and dancing around his table area.”

Stevie J & Joseline Hernandez Reunite in New Photo With Significant Others After Nasty Custody Fight

Despite recently being embroiled in a bitter custody battle, Stevie J and Joseline Hernandez put on a united front with their daughter in a sweet new photo on Aug. 22.

All seems to be going well for exes, Stevie J and Joseline Hernandez, these days! The two got together with their daughter, Bonnie Bella, on Aug. 22, and even posed for a photo together. They were joined by their significant others — Stevie’s wife, Faith Evans, and Joseline’s boyfriend, DJ Ballistics — as well, and everyone was all smiles for the picture. The reunion took place at Faith’s concert in Philadelphia. “God is the greatest,” Stevie J captioned the photo of the five-some on Instagram. Joseline also uploaded the photo and captioned it, “Amazing show tonight #FaithEvans #StevieJ.”

This isn’t the first time that Stevie and Joseline have recently reunited — they also shocked fans by getting lunch together earlier this month and posting about it on social media. Just a couple of weeks before that, though, a warrant was issued for Joseline’s arrest after she breached her and Stevie’s custody agreement. She reportedly took the pair’s daughter to Los Angeles during a time when Bonnie was supposed to be with Stevie. However, she was able to avoid charges because she eventually returned Bonnie to Miami.

Still, Stevie and Joseline have been dealing with bitter custody problems for months. Back in May, Stevie filed court documents that accused Joseline of alienating him from his daughter. He also asked for primary custody of the toddler. Before that, Joseline claimed that Stevie hadn’t seen Bonnie for a full YEAR, and claimed that Faith was the one putting up the money for his child support payments. Joseline had previously made claims about Stevie being an “absent” father, as well.

God is the greatest. 🙏🏽🖤

A post shared by Stevie J. (@hitmansteviej_1) on

When Stevie and Joseline first split in 2017, they often went at each other on social media with scathing disses, as well. Clearly, they are trying their best to put all of that in the past for the sake of their little girl now!

Aerosmith’s Joe Perry Discusses Songwriting Paradigm With Steven Tyler

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry recently sat down for a chat with Ultimate Classic Rock to discuss his “writing paradigm” with frontman Steven Tyler.

“Our basic paradigm for writing is him playing drums and me playing guitar. He’s a really inventive drummer – that’s why his singing is so percussive,” Perry said on Ultimate Classic Rock‘s national syndicated rock radio show, “Ultimate Classic Rock Nights.”

He added, “It takes him that extra length of time to write lyrics because he likes to use words that sound almost like a percussive kinda thing.”

Taking the example of the band’s “S.O.S (Too Bad),” Perry said the 1974 song sprung forth from a “set up in the living room with a little drum kit and a little amp” one afternoon.

Meghan Markle Shares Her 'Sweetest' Instagram Yet of the Bakery That Made Her Epic Birthday Cake

This just might be Meghan Markle’s favorite bakery!

In a new post on the official SussexRoyal Instagram page, which she shares with Prince Harry, Meghan wrote in her own words why she is choosing to shine a spotlight on Luminary Bakery, a small independent London bakery making a difference.

“What they’ve created at Luminary Bakery is exceptional – it’s a space for baking, healing and rebuilding,” she posted on Thursday alongside a picture of cupcakes with bright blue icing, each one featuring a different inspirational message.

The social enterprise bakery, which was founded in 2014 by Alice Williams, Sarah Harrison and Abigail Mifsud, has transformed the lives of over 50 women in the U.K. so far. Their aim is to empower women who have been the victims of violence, sex trafficking, been in the prison system or homeless, by teaching them how to bake. In addition to learning baking skills, they also offer education on food hygiene, money management and computer literacy, with many of the women getting jobs at the bakery or at other food establishments after they graduate.

The bakery also made Meghan’s cake for her 38th birthday earlier this month, according to Good Morning America. The creative bakers crafted a beautifully-decorated carrot cake with orange peels and pumpkin seeds placed on top alongside the message, “Happy Birthday Meghan,” written in chocolate icing.

“When I visited the women earlier this year I was struck by how the baking, itself, is a means of therapy for these women – which in many ways makes complete sense – feeling they had no control over their lives based on their previous (and often harrowing) circumstances, they found comfort in the measured nature of baking,” Meghan writes in the post, adding: “Mixing equal parts of one ingredient and another could yield the perfect dessert, but the act of doing so provided personal balance. So while the baked goods are absolutely delicious, it’s the story of how the program at Luminary reshapes lives through baking that is the actual icing on the cake.”

Co-founder Williams says everyone at the bakery has been overwhelmed by Meghan’s continued support.

”It’s been amazing!” she tells PEOPLE from the bakery shop floor, adding: “We are extremely grateful to the Duchess for all she is doing to champion Luminary. For many women here, traumatic life experiences have caused them to lose sight of their value. So for her to take the time to get to know us and use her platform to shine a light on our work has meant so much to our community.”

And that community is about to expand as Williams prepares to open a second bakery in London’s Camden in October and launch a cookbook next year. The bakery was first thrust into the spotlight when it was featured in the September issue of British Vogue, which Meghan guest-edited. “The Duchess’ choice to highlight what we do is opening doors and creating more opportunities for women to thrive,” says Williams.

On Wednesday, Meghan shared another charity close to her heart on Instagram. Surprising the participants of a photo shoot for Smart Works, an organization of which she is patron, they also help to empower disadvantaged women by getting them back into the workplace. The shoot was for Meghan’s capsule collection of workwear, which she is collaborating on with several designers, including her friend Misha Nonoo. Meghan shared the first glimpse of the project in an Instagram Story, showing her meeting and styling the models.

Meghan Markle shocks fans as she reemerges amid private plane backlash

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be at the center of attacks by British press for chartering a private plane for their recent vacation to the south of France. However, the negative press doesn’t seem to be stopping the Duchess of Sussex from doing her job and collaborating with brands to make a positive impact.

In a series of videos posted to the Instagram story on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s account, Markle is seen behind-the-scenes at a photoshoot for Smart Works — a London-based organization that provides women with work wear essentials. According to the posts and royal correspondent, Rebecca English, the 38-year-old is working on an initiative to support the collective and even set to release a capsule collection with the organization.

Still, some people have negative things to say about Markle’s appearance on social media amid the backlash and even claim that publicizing her work with Social Works is “all PR.”

One fan of Markle’s even said, “Haters gonna hate.” Although a close friend of Markle’s, Jessica Mulroney, took to her Instagram on Tuesday to call those haters “racist bullies.”

3 years of undeserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.

A post shared byJess Mulroney (@jessicamulroney) on

She captioned her post: “3 years of undeserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.”

Mulroney’s defense of the duchess comes on the same day that a few of Markle’s other famous friends decided to speak out — including Elton John, who claimed that it was actually his plane that the royal couple took to visit John and his husband in France.

“I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity,” John tweeted, “and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”
