Captain Sandy From 'Below Deck Med' Says Addiction Almost Ruined Her Life

When Below Deck Mediterranean viewers watch the show, they see a vibrant, uplifting captain at the helm. Captain Sandy Yawn has created a movement for women, girls, and anyone who has a dream to pursue.

Yawn always mentors young crew members and guides them into leadership roles in yachting. Which is why what she revealed to Showbiz Cheat Sheet is so surprising. Yawn has hinted previously that she wasn’t a good kid. She’s joked about being in jail and always in trouble.

But those comments come from a serious place and Yawn says she could have easily ended up dead as a result of her past behavior. She offered specifics about her struggles as a teenager and young adult and how she pulled herself out of despair and turned herself into the leader fans know and love today.

‘I was always a mess’

It’s hard to believe that Yawn was constantly in trouble, but she admits she was not in a good place when she was younger. “I was a mess,” she admits. “By the grace of God, I’m alive. No matter how much money you have, it’s not going to save your life if you are an addict or an alcoholic. And I was a major addict and alcoholic.”

She says she was always in jail for drinking and driving. “I always got bailed out,” she remarks. She’s not a convicted felon and never hurt another person. “But I could have killed someone. My life would be very different right now.”

Having those experiences is what fuels Yawn to reach out to kids and help. “And the only way I can help is to share my story,” she says. She recalls being in school and not being great at anything except socializing. “But I wasn’t popular and I was always a mess. And yeah, school was scary.”

She adds that she may have also been self-medicating because she was attracted to girls. Yawn was a teen in the 1980s when many gay people were still closeted. “It was social, it was intimidation through education,” she says. “Especially for a kid in a household that wasn’t very functional too.”

Her home life was tough

She says the only aspect of school she liked was getting away from home. Yawn says her mother was an alcoholic. “It was hard to watch,” she recalls. “My father left when we were eight years old. So we would spend the summers with my father and he was normal. He didn’t drink. He just couldn’t take it anymore and I didn’t blame him.”

Yawn says she just wanted to get out of her house when she was a teen, which she knows some kids experience too. But running from her problems at home meant she also fell into the wrong crowd of kids at school.

But she always excelled in math, which gave her hope. “I could understand algebra. It was formulas. My brain is a formula brain. I’m a logical thinker. For me that was logic.”

She wants her story to help others

Yawn wants kids, especially those who are struggling, to know they aren’t alone and that they can still turn it around and fulfill their dreams. “Maybe college isn’t their thing and maybe, like me, they are in the school of hard knocks,” she remarks. “It’s like a painful journey. And I want to help them.”

She wants to remind kids that feel left behind, “It doesn’t mean you have to stay behind. It just means you have to work a little harder to catch up. And then you’ll surpass people.”

But she understands how tough it is for kids to hear, especially when they are living in the present. “Kids don’t think about tomorrow, there is no tomorrow,” she says. “I didn’t.” She recalls how her father wouldn’t let her go to a party and how upset she was about it. “It was actually painful,” she says.

Yawn says the turning point in her life was getting sober. “I never really talked about my recovery,” she says. “I remember getting arrested for drinking and driving and was court-ordered to detox as a 17-year-old.” By the time Yawn turned 25, she’d had enough of meandering through life, seeing friends pursue careers, get married, and have children. That’s when she locked in her career in yachting and took the industry by storm.

'Bull': The Only Reason CBS Would Replace Michael Weatherly

CBS President Kahl is currently facing backlash following the network’s decision to renew Bull in the face of Eliza Dushku’s sexual harassment allegations against the show’s lead, Michael Weatherly. To make matters worse, the president recently defended the renewal on fiscal grounds. Placing money over morals, as many have since argued, President Kahl stated:

It’s a very popular show. More than 10 million people watch every week. Michael is loved by our audience, and even after these allegations came out, people continued to watch. It’s a popular show we want to keep on our air, and it’s a very good show as well.

Eliza Dushku chronicled the extent of her sexual harassment allegations in an essay for The Boston Globe. However, CBS continues to defended Weatherly following the $9.5 million settlement, often citing Weatherly’s “leadership training” as evidence of his (and the network’s) commitment to a healthy work environment.

Former Bull enthusiasts, boycotting the renewal, argue that the series should be canceled or Michael Weatherly should be replaced. Given CBS’s money-making motivations, it appears that CBS will only replace Michael Weatherly under specific circumstances.

This would likely lead to CBS replacing Michael Weatherly in ‘Bull’

CBS has made its stance clear; undermining the MeToo movement, the network remains fiscally focused at the cost of its reputation. Most would argue that the right, upstanding move should have been executed. However, based on Kahl’s statement, the show will go on, since people kept watching. People kept watching and, as a result, CBS arguably fueled the propagation of abuse of power in the industry.

If you’re one of the many former Bull viewers who believe Michael Weatherly should face the consequences of his actions (and that leadership coaching does not suffice), there is only one way to force CBS to replace Weatherly: don’t watch season four.

CBS is focused on money; thus, if Bull’s ratings drop, the network may be forced to cancel the show or replace Michael Weatherly. Given the president’s commitment to the success of the network above all else, he will not keep Weatherly around if he believes the actor is bad for the network’s continued growth. If season four ratings see a drastic decline, it will be an obvious indication of fans’ dissatisfaction with the network’s choice to renew.

CBS has made clear that Michael Weatherly will not be replaced, and that the show will continue on as it has this fall. Season four may be a guarantee for Weatherly, but season five remains up in the air.

A drastic decline in ratings will likely lead the network to make the decision many agree should have made earlier. However, instead of it being a righteous move, it will be a slimy one. Instead of standing up for what’s right, the network’s head honchos will be protecting their pockets.

Bull can survive without Michael Weatherly; the show merely needs to find a TV actor with a decent reputation in the biz to catalyze a renewed excitement for the series.

'Grey's Anatomy': Why Sara Ramirez Has Zero Regrets About Leaving the Show

Sara Ramirez may not regret leaving Grey’s Anatomy when she did, but there may yet be a chance she could return before the series ends.

Notice we said “chance.” We’re not making any promises here. If NCIS can bring Cote de Pablo back from the “dead,” nothing seems impossible. But nothing is guaranteed either. And even if Ramirez doesn’t come back, somebody else who previously left the show might.

Where Sara Ramirez stands on a return

One reason Ramirez could return is that her prior commitment, Madam Secretary, is off the table. Cinemablend reported that Ramirez will not be coming back as a series regular on that show because the timeline will jump two years for its final 10 episodes. Ramirez could make a guest appearance there too, but that would be all.

That would seemingly open the door to her coming back to Callie. However, Ramirez herself has given mixed signals on that possibility, sometimes in the same interview. In 2017, when EW asked her if she made the right decision in leaving, she said, “Absolutely.” But that didn’t necessarily mean she was saying never.

“When (creator) Shonda [Rhimes] and I last spoke, we agreed to keep the conversations going, and she knows I’m open to keeping those conversations going,” she said.

Why Ramirez left ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Ramirez, who had been with Grey’s since Season 2, departed at the end of the Season 12 finale. Her character Callie had moved to New York to be with then-girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan). Ramirez and Rhimes made it clear the parting was amicable, unlike some others on the show.

She said at the time:

“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC but for now I’m taking some welcome time off. Shonda’s been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my love to Ellen (Pompeo), the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!”

Her departure didn’t shock everyone, given her longevity, but she had been a key component to the appeal of the show. Callie and Arizona, played by Jessica Capshaw, were well-loved by viewers, and their wedding had been one of the first same-sex unions in prime time.

Capshaw herself departed in season 14, making a return by Callie all the more logistically difficult.

Who else could come back?

If Ramirez doesn’t work out, there are a few other possibilities. Showrunner Krista Vernoff told TV Line. “I’m trying to get someone back. There’s someone I’m hoping will make an appearance this year, [but] it’s a real maybe. I’m trying.”

That description would seem to apply to Ramirez, but another strong possibility is Kate Walsh’s Addison. She was on the show from 2005 to 2012 and even had her own spinoff in Private Practice. Vernoff has called Season 16 one of family and fun, and Addison could fit either of those.

On the other hand, “family and fun” would not necessarily apply to Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens. Heigl won an Emmy for her work on the show, but she departed under acrimonious circumstances. Heigl herself has said her return might be distracting, but then again she would qualify as the “real maybe” that Vernoff mentioned.

Heigl is slated to appear in the Netflix series Firefly Lane, with another medical series veteran, Sarah Chalke of Scrubs

Grey’s run has been extended to at least 17 seasons. It’s now the longest-running medical drama of all time, and the third longest-running live-action scripted show that is still airing, after Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and NCIS

Hilary Duff to Reprise Lizzie McGuire on Disney+’s Sequel Series

Hilary also shared the exciting news on her Instagram account, writing, ‘SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!’

AceShowbiz -Everyone, Lizzie McGuire is back! Disney announced during its D23 Expo convention on Friday, August 23, that it would be rebooting “Lizzie McGuire“, one of the most popular shows on Disney Channel. As if that isn’t exciting enough, original star Hilary Duff is also set to star on the sequel, reprising the titular character.

The new “Lizzie McGuire” series will air on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. The new series reportedly will revolve around 30-year-old millennial Lizzie who is navigating life in New York City. Original series creator Terri Minsky is attached as showrunner on the series.

“The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up,” Duff said about the revived show while on stage. Of her character, the actress explained, “She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now.”

“She’s working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator,” she continued teasing. “She has her dream guy, who owns a cool SoHo restaurant. She has her dream apartment in Brooklyn. And she’s getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.”

Despite her being matured, fans would still see the animated alter ego of Lizzie’s inner thoughts on the new show. “She is still dealing with that 13-year-old no-holds-barred animated Lizzie that’s constantly babbling in her adult Lizzie head,” Duff said. “So she has to deal with that. But I think that’s what’s going to make it really special.”

Hilary also shared the exciting news on her Instagram account. “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!” she wrote in the caption alongside a clip of the original show. “I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl…and into her 30’s.”

Airing from 2001-2004, the original “Lizzie McGuire” followed 13-year-old Lizzie, who dreamt of being popular in school, and featured her animated alter ego that represents her true feelings. The series was also adapted into a movie, titled “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”, back in 2003.

Bethenny Frankel Explains What She Meant About Being Married in Her Tweet

Bethenny Frankel said she greeted this morning to her phone on fire. The former cast member from The Real Housewives of New York City said in her Instagram story that friends were blowing up her phone after she launched what can only be considered to be a very cryptic and explosive tweet.

At around 4 am she tweeted,  “To my NY hwives: GO GET EM! I had to go since I’m the only one that is actually married…that’s how crazy this ride is,” she wrote. “You are all amazing, beautiful and strong. Spread your wings and fly! Xoxo”

The rumor mill immediately began to churn with most speculating Frankel and boyfriend Paul Bernon eloped in a quiet ceremony. Frankel and Bernon have spent the summer together at either her place in the Hamptons or in Nantucket. She also purchased a townhouse in Boston to be closer to him.

She addresses how she left ‘RHONY’

Frankel started her series of videos by saying she made a big decision this week to leave the show. “I’ve been thinking about it and going back and forth and I just decided when you jump you fly,” she explained while riding in a car.

“When I came onto Housewives everyone, everyone told me not to do it,” she continued. “I went with my own gut and many people, many people didn’t want me to leave. And very few people thought it might be the right time.” She adds it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks when it comes to making decisions. Sometimes you may not even know too.

She adds she made the decision to leave the show only days ago too. “You know, let’s go let it ride,” she remarked. “I was really emotional. I spent a quarter of my life on that network and on many different shows. And its a very emotional time.”

She addresses the tweet

Frankel said she wanted to take time to address the women on the show. She added that she is rooting them and that she was “part of this fabric of this show.” She wanted to say, “like go get ’em and you’re going to be great and I’m here to help. And I’m rooting for you.”

She acknowledges that she paved the way for so many too. Frankel then clarified what she meant with her tweet. “And ironically I’m the only legally married Housewife on New York,” she says. “Like I said at the reunion. I am not newly married. I am just the only, was the only, legally married Housewife on The Real Housewives of New York.”

According to Page Six, Frankel and Jason Hoppy are not legally divorced. “Jason and Bethenny are still technically married,” Hoppy’s attorney Robert Wallack told The Post. “While Jason has been pushing for years to have the judge sign the divorce judgment, Bethenny’s lawyers have objected.”

“This issue has been addressed in open court on the record,” the judge said. “It’s true that no judgment has been issued. It is not true that one side has objected.”

Fans Are Freaked out by IG Pic of Colton Underwood & Cassie Randolph

It’s been a strange, albeit interesting and entertaining, year for Bachelor Nation. First, Colton Underwood jumped a fence after Cassie Randolph chose to leave The Bachelor and eventually broke off his remaining two relationships in an effort to chase after her. Then, Hannah Brown got engaged to Jed Wyatt on the latest season of The Bachelorette, only to break it off with him almost immediately afterward, when the news broke that he had a girlfriend back home. Finally, Bachelor In Paradise has been the gift that keeps on giving with its twists and turns.

Bachelor In Paradise

One of the most entertaining things about this season of Bachelor In Paradise is Demi Burnett. Hailing from Underwood’s season, she is full of quick-witted responses and sports a fun-loving personality. One of her best one-liners from this season of BIP came after she spotted a footprint in the sand. The footprint was truly unusual because it clearly showed the imprint of six toes, rather than five. “Who is the monster running around here with six toes?,” Burnett exclaimed in horror.

The six-toed monster

Though the mystery of the six-toed “monster” has yet to be solved, many Bachelor Nation fans began questioning if Underwood was the culprit. Though the former bachelor is nowhere near paradise at the moment, Randolph recently posted a picture that have fans freaked out and at least a bit suspicious.

Cassie and Colton couple pic

“Missing this place and this guy a little extra today,” Randolph captioned a picture of the pair of them together. In the picture, which was taken in Bermuda, the couple is snuggled up on the back of a boat. Arms wrapped around each other, and legs stretched out, Underwood’s feet are closest to the camera lens, which was a cause for alarm for many fans.

“I thought Colton had 6 toes for a second,” one fan wrote. “I was thinking the same! I even zoomed in to count his toes!,” another fan declared in response. “It’s Colton’s foot this time! He may be the 6th toed person in Paradise,” one Instagram user said, referencing the footprint that Burnett spotted. “Who else counted his toes…looks like you’re in the clear for now,” said one fan. Even Randolph herself joined in on the ribbing. “Is that a 6th toe I see?,” the California native commented playfully underneath the photo.

Fans are freaked out

Other people were less concerned about counting Underwood’s toes and more bothered by his feet in general. And of course, in the age of no filters on the Internet, people were quick to vocalize their disgust. “Colton Underwood’s toes are scary!,” one fan wrote. “Disgusting a*s feet bruh,” another chimed in. “Wtf are those toes doing?” one user questioned. “Is his foot okay?,” another fan asked.

Others rush to Underwood’s defense

Of course, some diehard fans were quick to stick up for Underwood and his feet. “Colton’s toes are weirding me out,” one user confessed. Immediately, another fan stepped in to defend the former football player. “Don’t look at them!!! What do your toes look like?,” the fan quickly clapped back. We have to agree with the defender here. As long as Randolph isn’t freaked out by Underwood’s feet, we’re not sure why anyone else cares.

Bachelor in Paradise's Christian Estrada Challenges Jordan Kimball, Denies Dating 90 Day Fiancé's Ashley Martson

A rematch may be coming between Bachelor in Paradise‘s Jordan Kimball and Christian Estrada.

During Monday’s episode, the two men engaged in an altercation and were subsequently kicked off the show when Kimball, 27, attempted to rip a piñata Estrada had set up for Nicole Lopez-Alvar because his friend, Clay Harbor, was also wooing her.

Estrada addressed the incident on Thurdsay’s episode of The Domenick Nati Show and challenged Kimball to round two.

“If Jordan tries to shake my hand at the reunion, I won’t shake it until after we fight,” Estrada said. “No cameras, no security. Let’s go one on one, bro! You think you’re tough? I’m tougher than you! Anytime, bro. You can go to my gym and we can handle this. Boxing gloves, street fight, whatever Jordan wants.”

While Kimball said in a recent interview on The Betchelor podcast that he was acting in “self-defense” during the scuffle, Estrada strongly disagrees.

Jordan and Christian

“First off, Jordan, he did something he should never have,” Estrada said. “Second of all, I mean, self-defense? I don’t see that as self-defense, because if anything, he’s the one who tried to body-slam me. There was no time and not any moment when I actually put my hands on Jordan.”

The New York-based model revealed that he’s looking to seek legal action against Kimball.

“I have the best lawyers in N.Y. looking at the case right now,” he said. “My dad got a hold of attorneys, and we’ll see if this is Jordan’s fault or ABC, but there’s going to be consequences”

Estrada also addressed the accusations made by his famous ex-girlfriend, Frida Sofía, of having a romantic relationship with her mom, Mexican rock star Alejandra Guzmán.

“Yes, she was one of my ex-girlfriends. We dated for six months,” Estada said of Sofía. “She’s a big celebrity in Mexico. We dated, but then things didn’t go well, we ended things wrong, and she made this whole scandal by me still talking to her mom, just the fact that my brothers were working for her, so she made a whole scandal that I was sleeping with her mom when all this is not true.

“I dont know why she’s still bringing me up,” Estrada added.

In May, Sofía told PEOPLE en Español that Estrada was a “fame-seeker” who remained close to her mom after their breakup to stay in the spotlight.

Both Guzmán and Sofía are part of the famous Mexican “Pinal dynasty,” which traces its lineage to the iconic actress Silvia Pinal. Sofía is also famously known for posing in Playboy Mexico in 2015.

Although Estrada was recently linked to 90 Day Fiancé star Ashley Martson, he shut down rumors that the two were an item.

Ashley Martson

“No. I know Ashley’s PR, I’m good friends with her PR, but the few times I’ve been with Ashley, hanging out, its not just the two of us,” Estrada said. “But I respect the girl, she’s an awesome girl, good looking chick, but like I said, at this point I’m focusing on my projects.”

Bachelor in Paradise airs Mondays and Tuesdays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.

Mindhunter season 2 cast: Who plays Wayne Williams?

The case of the Atlanta Child Murders took centre stage in season two of Mindhunter. As FBI agents Bill Tench (played by Holt McCallany) and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) did their best to find the culprit responsible for the long line of killings, they end up pinning two of the cases on Wayne Williams (Christopher Livingston). Starring in three episodes throughout the Netflix series, read on to find out more about the actor.

Who plays Wayne Williams in Mindhunter season 2?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Mindhunter season 2.

The second season of Mindhunter introduced a number of new serial killers to the series.

With new serial killers comes new actors to play them.

While Oliver Cooper’s portrayal of David Berkowitz left viewers gripped, as did Michael Filipowich as William ‘Junior’ Pierce, it was the hair-raising Wayne Williams that stood out.

Williams was the man sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of two men back in 1981.

However, at a time when the Atlanta Child Murders made national headlines, police believed he was responsible for at least approximately two dozen more killings.

This was never proven, however, and no one has ever been sentenced for the 30 unsolved murders.

Williams’ case and the man himself were brought to life in Mindhunter season two by the abundantly talented Christopher Livingston.

READ KORE: Mindhunter season 2: How was BTK killer caught?

Livingston actually first appears in episode six of the second series, although merely as one of many reporters and photographers attending a crime scene.

This somewhat hints at a point Ford and Tench have alluded too before – killers tend to return to the scene of their crimes.

Mindhunter fans may catch their first glimpse at him here but he plays a much more prominent role toward the end of season two.

Livingston does a truly fantastic job at making Williams as cold and calculated as possible, all the while being arrogant enough to believe he will never be caught in the season finale.

While Mindhunter is the actor’s biggest role to date, eagle-eyed viewers may recognise him from one of the following roles.

The actor made his first on-screen appearance back in 2014.

He starred opposite Poppy Montgomery in an episode of CBS crime series Unforgettable.

From there he went on to land the lead role in the drama Modern Day Black Gay.

The Mindhunter star’s on-screen CV is completed by a part in 2016 historical drama Service to Man.

Mind hunter season 2 is available to stream on Netflix now.

Decade in Review: The Very Best Seasons, Including Game of Thrones S3, The Good Wife S5, Arrow S2 and More

There are few things more satisfying to a TV fan than watching a show hit it out of the park week after week. It’s one thing to deliver a stunning premiere or a satisfying finale — but it’s especially tough to sustain near-perfection for an entire season.

In the last decade, though, plenty of shows have done exactly that, serving up season-long storylines, performances and plot twists that hardly ever dipped in quality. As our Decade in Review continues, we’re saluting 20 of those shows, highlighting the excellent seasons that are ripe for a rewatch.

Best TV Seasons of the Decade

Launch Gallery

Among the seasons that earned kudos? The deliciously fraught fifth year of The Good Wife; Orange Is The New Black‘s tragically poignant fourth go-round; the sinfully good sophomore year of Fleabag; and impressive debuts from Catastrophe, Homeland and more.

We’ve also included standout seasons of anthology shows, including FX’s American Horror Story, HBO’s True Detective and ABC’s American Crime, among others.
