Dan Walker left fans emotional during last night’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing as he paid tribute to his wife Sarah Walker. The BBC Breakfast presenter dedicated his heartwarming routine to his other half.

For Week Five of Strictly, Dan, 44, and his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova, 32, danced to a Viennese Waltz to Billy Joel’s She’s Always a Woman.

The news broadcaster revealed that the song is a favourite of his beloved wife Sarah.

Following the routine, the Strictly judges awarded Dan and Nadiya with a score of 28 points out of 40.

The show contestant chatted with Claudia Winkleman, where he paid tribute to Sarah who was sat in the audience.

Dan said: “Sarah thankfully is here tonight, you saw her come to training this week. I’m going to gush over her for the moment.

“She is one of those people, the more you know her, the more you love her and I’ve known her and loved her for over half my life.”

He added: “She’s absolutely amazing, she’s a special person and I love her to bits and I hope she enjoyed that.”

Viewers were moved by Dan’s heartfelt tribute to his other half, as they took to social media.

Rach penned: “OMG, Dan Walker has such an ADORABLE family, he loves his wife and isn’t afraid to say so on national TV and he can waltz! Just the sort of heartwarming stuff we all need at the moment. Also, cute doggo! #Strictly2021#Strictly.”

“Dan is making me cry about his wife,” Helen Donaldson commented.

Ruby remarked: “That dance was so sweet and Dan gushing over his wife Sarah is adorable #Strictly ”.

Simon Cudd tweeted: “Great to see Mrs Walker, a lovely couple.”

Andrea added: “The dance was superb plus so lovely to see Mrs Walker, the family and Winnie.”

Earlier this week, Dan gave a rare insight into his family life as his wife and children visited him during Strictly rehearsals.

Sarah usually keeps a low profile but came out to support her husband on the BBC show.

She met Dan in 1999, when they both attended the University of Sheffield, where Dan graduated with a Masters degree in broadcast journalism.

They tied the knot in 2001 after dating for two years.

Dan told Mail Online in 2018: “My wife Sarah and I moved to Sheffield last year because it’s played a big part in our lives.

“We both studied here and it’s where I began broadcasting.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight on BBC One at 7.15pm.
