Dwayne Johnson has spoken out in support of presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris in a rare political statement.
The actor said he was going to ‘go big’ and endorsed Biden and Harris after holding a virtual discussion with them both, asking how they were going to earn the respect of the American people.
In a video posted on social media the former wrestler explained that he has been ‘a registered independent for years’ and had ‘centrist ideologies’.
Now he is nailing his colours to the mast of the Democratic Party ahead of the election on November 3.
Dwayne said: ‘We are approximately five weeks away from election day, arguably the most critical election our country has seen in decades.
‘Now that said I’m gonna be pushing the political conversation just a little bit more. I’ve got friends in all parties, but the one thing we all agree on is the conversation and the dialogue, and where that conversation lands, is always the most critical part.
‘This is something that I’ve certainly not done in the past so I’m gonna go big. You guys know me, if I go – I go big. So I had the opportunity to sit down with Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris to talk about a number of important issues that we’re facing as a country.’
Turning to the chat he had with both politicians, he continued: ‘I thought it was a great and extremely productive conversation that we had, and as a registered independent for years now with centrist ideologies, I do feel that Vice President Biden and Senator Harris are the best choice to lead our country, and I am endorsing them to become President and Vice President of our United States.
‘In January my old man died and I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to him but he always said that, respect is given when it’s earned. So you gotta get out there and earn it with your own two hands.’
Meanwhile Harris tweeted a video of their sit down and added: ‘I’m a huge fan of everything from Fast & Furious to Jumanji, so this endorsement means a lot to me. Welcome to Team Joe, @TheRock.’
Cardi B, Shia LaBeouf, Billy Porter, and Billie Eilish are just some of the other celebs who have joined The Rock in supporting Biden.
