Garth Brooks said he was surprised by his ex-wife Sandy Mahl‘s honesty in a new documentary.
Brooks married Sandy Mahl in 1986, and they have three daughters — Taylor, August and Allie. The couple divorced in 2001.
Mahl took part in an interview for the two-part A&E documentary, titled “Garth Brooks: The Road I’m On.” Part one of the documentary aired on Monday, with part two set to air on Tuesday.
“What really surprised me was Sandy, the girls’ mom. She was phenomenal,” the 57 year-old country icon said at a recent press event to promote the documentary in New York City.
“[I was] gone so much on the road [during our marriage], there were things I guess she was [trying to tell] me that I didn’t hear until this biography,” he told reporters.
“It’s rare you get to hear the other side. I just saw her and I think I hugged her harder than I ever have now that I know things that either I didn’t hear or that she didn’t say until now,” Brooks added.
