James Martin’s Saturday Morning returns for another packed show today, with the chef’s hand-picked recipes and his award-winning creations. The TV chef previously opened up about an intimate lunch he shared with the Queen which admittedly left him taken aback, as the ITV favourite was left chatting alone to the royal.

The 48-year-old contacted his mother straight after his lunch at Buckingham Palace.

The award-winning cook added it was a “real pinch yourself moment” following his encounter with the Queen and Prince Philip.

The small-screen star shared it was a “surreal” experience as the chef dished on the pair’s surprising common interest.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine with stand-in host Christine Lampard, the ITV favourite revealed how he anticipated hundreds of guests at the event, but was shocked to see there were only eight people at the Palace.

Christine began: “I understand that you spent some intimate time with the Queen. Not many people can say that.”

James chuckled: “Yes. It was an amazing experience.

“You get invited for lunch and your thinking there are going to be 300 people there for lunch and it was just eight of us. A bit surreal.”

Christine quizzed further: “Didn’t it narrow down to just you and her eventually?”

“Yes, we just sat there talking about corgi dogs,” James replied. “I love my dogs, you see.

“But it was just very surreal.”

He continued: “I remember walking out of there. The first person I called was my mother and I said, ‘You’re never going to believe what’s happened.’ It was just an amazing experience.

“It was a real pinch yourself moment.”

The Queen is known for her love of dogs and it has since been claimed by a royal insider that it is “unthinkable” she wouldn’t have corgis and would often take them on walks around Windsor Castle.

When Prince Philip was in hospital before his death, two new corgi puppies joined the royal household, providing some extra comfort to the Queen during a difficult time in her life.

An insider told My London: “It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any corgis.

“It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens. They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home.”

James, who is notoriously private about his home life, often shares snaps of his pet dogs on social media.

The celebrity chef owns two dogs; a Lhasa Apso called Ralph and a cocker spaniel named Cooper.

James added that he was surprised that he got an invite to a luncheon with the Queen and believed Her Majesty may have had a mix-up because “Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay were busy” that day.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs today on ITV at 9.25am.
