James Martin’s Saturday Morning is back on screens today as the ITV favourite shares his delectable creations and homemade recipes with viewers on the flagship show. The TV chef, who has had decades of cooking experience, opened up about a “surreal moment” with the Queen but added he believed Her Majesty had made an error.
The 48-year-old revealed he couldn’t believe his luck after he had been invited for a private lunch with Her Majesty.
The culinary chef confessed it was a “real pinch yourself moment” following his encounter with the Queen and Prince Philip.
But James admitted he couldn’t help but wonder if there had been a mix-up with his invitation to Buckingham Palace.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine with host Christine Lampard, the ITV favourite admitted he thought the Queen had intended to invite chefs, Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.
James said: “I remember walking out of there. The first person I called was my mother and I said, ‘You’re never going to believe what’s happened.’ It was just an amazing experience.
“It was a real pinch yourself moment.
“Clearly Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay were busy that day, and I got the invite. It was amazing, a phenomenal experience.”
The culinary chef added that he was surprised that it was only eight people that attended the luncheon.
James remarked: “You get invited for lunch and you’re thinking there are 300 people [attending] and it was just eight of us. A bit surreal.”
The TV star revealed that the group had whittled down to just himself and the Queen.
He added that they spent much of their time discussing their beloved “corgi dogs”.
James has previously addressed his biggest regret following his meeting with the Queen was not having his grandmother witness the moment.

“The only thing I regret is that my grandmother wasn’t alive to witness it because she was a huge fan,” James told HELLO! magazine.
But he added he wouldn’t want to be a member of the Royal Family.
James remarked: “I have total respect for the Queen and the royal family. Would you want to do it?
“No, would you hell. I wouldn’t want to do that in a month of Sundays.”
Elsewhere, James paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh who died at the age of 99, earlier this month.
Taking to Twitter, the Saturday Morning host posted a photo of Prince Philip with a simple caption: “RIP.”
The news of his death has seen celebrities take to social media and offer their condolences, with the Duke of Edinburgh being buried at St George’s Chapel today.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs today on ITV at 9.25am.
