‘Eight days in hospital and still here!’ S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara reveals doctors discovered a blood clot during second back surgery

S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara has shared a health update from hospital on Sunday after doctors discovered a blood clot while they were operating on her for back pain.

The singer, 43, had previously told her Instagram followers she was suffering from the ‘worst pain ever’ after being re-admitted to hospital for another operation following the results of an MRI.

She has now revealed doctors had to remove a dangerous blood clot and has spent eight days in hospital, but thankfully the surgery went well.

Jo, who admitted she had been unable to walk as a result of her issues, wrote: ‘8 days in hospital and still here!

‘The surgery went well, there was a lot of work to do and they wasn’t surprised I was unable to walk with the amount of damage!

‘They also found a blood clot in there so luckily that was removed as well! I am recovering well, suffering very low blood pressure, but on the whole I’m getting there ! Slowly but surely!’

The star also thanked the NHS saying: ‘Thank you for everyone who’s been concerned! 

‘And a huge thank you to queens-hospital and all the lovely staff snd the wonderful surgeons who are taking such good care of me! Sending lots of love Jojo.’ 

Last week, ‘Devastated’ Jo revealed that she was back in hospital, one month after ‘urgent’ surgery to have a disc removed from her back failed.

The singer shared a snap of herself to Instagram on a drip as she sat in A&E at 4am and she said the pain ‘was the worst it’s been yet’.

Jo had emergency surgery on her back just last month to remove a disc and had to cancel gigs including Fife Pride as a result. 

She revealed that she was ‘devastated’ and in a ‘horrendous’ amount of pain after the operation didn’t work quite as well as expected.

She penned: ‘When am I gonna get a break ?? I really thought I was on the road to recovery. 

‘4am this morning the pain was the worst it’s been yet! So here we are again ! I am devastated.’

On October 25 Jo revealed the first operation hadn’t worked, speaking from her bed in an Instagram video she said she has to go back for more surgery after a recent MRI and said she feels like she’s ‘in a really bad place’ at the moment.  

‘As you can see I’m back in bed. That is because the back is playing games again,’ she said in a clip.

‘The pain has been absolutely horrendous and today I got some MRI scan results back that wasn’t the result I wanted.’

Jo continued: ‘I’ve actually got to go back into hospital for further surgery on my back which I’m absolutely devastated about to be honest. The pain is… horrendous.’

The singer admitted her injury was taking its toll on her mental health as she said: ‘And it’s been making me feel really quite in a bad place if I’m being honest.’

‘I’ve felt really low. The last few days have been really tough but I’m hopefully with this next surgery, I will be back fighting fit and ready to get out there again so positive thinking.’ 

She captioned her post: ‘So I got the MRI scan results I didn’t want to see, and I am going to have to go back in for another back operation to try and get it fixed! I’m totally gutted that it didn’t work the first time, but my back is in a bit of a mess to be honest!’

She then thanked fans for their support, writing: ‘Thank you for all your love and support you continue to show me! And don’t forget it’s almost Halloween @ that means one thing!! Stream ‘Thriller’! I love you all very much.’

She penned: ‘UPDATE‼️ I am so devastated and sorry to have announce, that I will not be able to attend @fifepride on Saturday!

‘As you may well know I have had some health issues with my back recently and it has resulted in me needing surgery to remove the disc and fix the problem.

‘The pain has been unbearable, and I have been advised surgery is now my only option and been told this is something that’s needs doing urgently to prevent further damage to my back!

‘So I will be going in for the procedure tomorrow! I am beyond upset to be missing out on such a special day, and I am so so sorry.

‘I hope you all understand that this decision was very hard but I must put my health first at this time!! Sending you all so much love and please make sure to Reach for those Stars. Lots of love Jo’.
