Lisa Faulkner, 49, has detailed the struggles she and her husband John Torode, 56, faced when they were working together during the coronavirus lockdown. The pair, who host their self-titled ITV show John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen as a couple, couldn’t look as flawless as they usually would on-screen at the time, due to social distancing restrictions.
Lisa explained she and the MasterChef host were left looking “sweaty” due to doing their own make-up and getting overheated in their kitchen in the studio.
Speaking out on the awkward filming conditions in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Lisa said: “We started filming a new series of that in September.
“We actually went into a studio.
“It was difficult because we had a big stick that we had to keep away from everybody else.
“Luckily we live together, so we didn’t have to.”
The actress and chef continued: “We had a really skeleton crew.
“We had very, very, few people, and everyone kept two metres distance, and people really kept to it, so we felt very safe.
“It was hard as in, you’re doing your make-up, you’re putting on your clothes, and you’re in your costumes and whatever.
“But also, at the same time, you’re sweating, and hot because you’re cooking, and there’s nobody to check what you look like!”
Lamenting the lack of their usual hair and make-up team on set, Lisa admitted: “So there were a couple of periods where I looked a bit shiny and sweaty!”
Fortunately, Lisa didn’t let the behind-the-scenes issues affect her experience while filming with her other half.
The star added: “But it was so much fun to do.”

It wasn’t the first time John and Lisa encountered some issues while cooking up a storm in the kitchen during lockdown.
This Morning was thrown into chaos when John set a fire in their kitchen last year.
John had been busy filming a cooking segment for the ITV show during the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020, when his tea towel burst into flames on air due to a risky blunder.
Lisa revealed she wasn’t aware of what had happened until the smoke alarm started going off in their home.
She recalled: “I was upstairs, I just sat upstairs because he was filming downstairs.”
Lisa added: “When you’re in the kitchen and you’ve got homeschooling going on, you’ve got kids in the house, and it’s your working kitchen, it is really difficult when someone is filming in the kitchen. And so I was banished upstairs.”
However, Lisa didn’t realise the full extent of the damage until John had finished filming.
She continued: “And then I heard the smoke alarm go off, but I didn’t realise until after the event that anything had happened, which was quite funny.
“I just completely left him to it, I just thought, ‘You carry on in the kitchen so that I can get down there and make lunch’.
“He didn’t lose his cool either, he’s always so calm,” Lisa admitted.
Although John remained calm throughout, This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were less relaxed when they spotted the flames.
