Hugo Hammond got more than he bargained for sitting next to all four of his ‘exes’ on the Love Island reunion Sunday night.
Now infamous for being part of his numerous unsuccessful pairings on the show, the former contestant was in a for a sticky chat judging by the unimpressed faces of Amy Day, Georgia Townend, Abigail Rawlings and Sharon Gaffka.
Hugo did his best to appear at ease as he made his way to the stage, smiling on approach. Once he sat down however, he was met with glaring eyes particularly from Amy – with whom Hugo had a row with last time they were together – and his demeanour shifted.
Host Laura Whitmore attempted to delve into Hugo’s reasons for his relationship failings. When he wasn't able to give a specific answer, Hugo’s former flames were visibly unimpressed with him, leaving a frosty atmosphere in the air.
“I don't think it was unfair but say if it was the other way around, say it was one girl and four guys up there it would never have happened,” Hugo has revealed since. “So it was a little bit intimidating, a little bit like oh my god, what a situation to be in."
Of the four ladies, Georgia seems to be one who is on good terms with the former teacher.
Georgia uploaded to Instagram Stories her honest conversation with Hugo about his feelings on how he was treated in the reunion.
A nightmare scenario for anyone, Hugo did his best to appear calm and collected Sunday night, but clearly the tension was thick between him and some of the Love Islanders he’d been partnered up with.
“For me it's just a massive shame because I generally don’t have a bad word to say about the girls,” Hugo told Georgia, when asked about his broken relationships with the women.
“It's just a shame that they keep bringing me up in the press and what not. It's just sad it's kind of got this far.
“I don't have a problem with them and I wish them all the best in the future.”
Georgia continued to discuss the reception Hugo has received from viewers of the show, after his restless moves from one contestant to the other.
“People were saying you're Henry VII reincarnated!” she joked. "Divorced, beheaded, pied – and that was me!”
Hugo laughed away with his fellow contestant, seemingly brushing all the criticism off his shoulder. As for mending any bridges with the rest of his ‘exes’ one the show, Hugo feels unconcerned.
“As long as they stop talking about me then it's calm, you know what I mean?” he said.
