Sarah Ferguson has claimed the late Princess Diana would have loved her son’s “wonderful wives” Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.
The Duchess of York, 61, said she believed that her late sister-in-law Diana would be “proud” of Prince William and Harry, and the partners they chose.
Speaking to People Magazine, Fergie, as she is more informally known, said: “If she (Diana) were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, 'I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen.
Explaining what Diana would have liked about Kate and Meghan, Sarah added: "Because each has got her own voice."
“And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren," she continued. "Because that's what she loved. Diana adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven.”
Sarah also opened up on her enduring friendship with ex-husbandPrince Andrewand said she will always “stand firm" beside him – "whatever challenges he has.”
The former couple were married for 10 years, but divorced in 1996. Despite their split, Andrew and Fergie, who share daughters Princess Beatrice, 32, and Princess Eugenie, 31, have remained close friends throughout the years.
Speaking about starting a fresh chapter at the age of 61 in a People magazine interview, Fergie also commented on the Duke of York’s recent media storm and insisted she will always stand by the father of her children.
She said: “Whatever challenges he has, I will stand firm to the co-parenters that we are together."
The royal also added that the Prince has “been a fabulous father to the girls”.
The Duke and Duchess of York married in a fairytale wedding at Westminster Abbey in 1986, five years after Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot.
It wasn’t all wedded bliss for the pair though. The couple experienced hardships during their marriage which caused them to separate in 1992 and later divorce in 1996.
Earlier this year, the Duchess of York revealed how happy she thought she came off in the highly-rated Netflix show, The Crown.
She spoke about her thoughts on how the show depicted her wedding to Prince Andrew. And said she has no complaints at all about her part – and loved how the producers handled her marriage.
In an interview withUs Weekly, she said: “I thought it was filmed beautifully. The cinematography was excellent.
“I loved the way they put my wedding in as well.”
Fergie is due to release her debut novel, a historical romance titled Her Heart as a Compass, in August.
