Roxanne Pallett has opened up about her former engagement in a candid interview.

The former Emmerdale actress, 36, faced nation-wide backlash after accusing the Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas of punching her on the Channel 5 show last year, before apologising and insisting she "got it wrong" when watching the footage of the playful moment back.

Prior to entering the house and the shock incident, she confirmed her engagement to Lee Walton – just a week after meeting each other.

She later confirmed the duo had ended their relationship after she left the Big Brother house, and went into hiding from society – which made her realise Lee wasn’t the one for her after all.

Looking back on her relationship, she told Closer: "The first major decision I made after CBB was to end my relationship.

“Last year, I got embarrassingly carried away and badly wanted to carve out some happiness.

"I looked at my friends who were engaged and settled with kids – I was 36 and didn’t have any of that.

"If anybody had shown me affection, and told me we had things in common, I would have just clung to it – and that’s what happened.”

Roxanne has apologised multiple times for the incident on the show, and admits after isolating herself from society she began to realise she had rushed into the engagement.

She added: ”It was contrived happiness. I was engaged to someone I didn’t know.

"The isolation after CBB gave me clarity, and I realised Lee wasn’t the one and it wouldn’t have been fair to stay when my heart wasn’t in it.

“He isn’t a bad person, we were just on different pages.”
