Ricky Martin, 49, has been referred to as the “king of Latin pop” thanks to his hits like Livin’ la Vida Loca. The star will be taking part in this year’s Global Citizen concert, which may lead people to wonder what he’s been up to recently.
Ricky will be joining the global concert this Saturday, which sees stars from around the world perform.
He’ll be joined by stars like Jennifer Lopez, Elton John and Ed Sheeran for the fundraiser.
The 24-hour event is part of a campaign to help combat Covid-19 as well as the worldwide hunger crisis and protecting the planet.
The star will be performing a few songs from his long career, which began back in 1984.
Where is Ricky Martin now?
Ricky first became a worldwide phenomenon when he launched his solo career in the 1990s.
In particular, it was his song Livin’ La Viva Loca, which helped him gain recognition.
This was released back in 1999 and was his English language debut.
Since then, the singer has dropped several more studio albums.
This includes Sound Loaded (2000), Almas del Silencio (2003), Life (2005), Música + Alma + Sexo (2011), and A Quien Quiera Escuchar (2015).
Ricky has also become one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time.
He’s sold more than 70 million records worldwide as well as earning many awards.
In more recent years, Ricky has also been breaking into acting as well.
He made his debut back in General Hospital in 1994 as a Puerto Rican singer.
However, he received widespread acclaim when he played Antonio D’Amico in the miniseries The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
The show, created by Ryan Murphy, was based on the real-life event which led to Gianni’s death.
For the role, Ricky was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award, but lost out to Jeff Daniels for Godless.
The singer also voiced a role in the Netflix animated film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey in December.
Alongside his acting, Ricky has appeared as a judge on the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi.
The star is also working on music, releasing songs like Tiburones, which was nominated for Song of the Year at the 21st Latin Grammy Awards earlier this year.
More recently, Ricky has been campaigning for people to get their vaccines to protect against Covid-19.
In a recent interview with US chief medical advisor Dr Fauci, he urged: “We’re on the other side.
“We need to keep protecting ourselves and we’ll get through this.”
