‘Spencer’ premiered on November 5, and one piece of jewellery seen recurring throughout the film would have been instantly recognisable to royal fans. Kristen Stewart was the latest actress to portray Princess Diana in ‘Spencer’, where the Princess’s style was reimagined. Princess Diana remains a renowned fashion icon to this day and her wardrobe and jewellery have been beautifully captivated in ‘Spencer’ by Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran.

Diana influenced women across the globe with her distinguished style.

She was a lover of diamonds, pearls, statement colours and matching suits – all trends which are still very familiar to royal fans in 2021.

But which key trends do experts expect to resurface in light of the latest historical Hollywood drama?

Diamonds Factory has identified one key wearable trend worn by Kristen Stewart in her portrayal of Diana.

Princess Diana was a big wearer of rich royal blues, and ‘Spencer’ paid tribute to Diana’s love of deep blue jewels and matching garments.

In February 1981, Prince Charles proposed to Lady Diana with a sapphire engagement ring.

Diana chose the mesmerizing blue ring herself from Garrad’s existing catalogue, which was against royal protocol.

Usually, royal women were presented with an engagement ring designed from scratch, or were presented with an heirloom from within the family.

This tradition was upheld by Prince Harry for example who designed his ring himself for Meghan Markle.

Similarly, Prince Charles presented his second wife, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, with a ring previously belonging to the Queen Mother.

She was allegedly inspired by her mother’s engagement ring when choosing the beautiful gem.

At the engagement reveal photoshoot, Diana wore a cobalt blue Harrods suit, off the rack, to match her glorious ring.

Diana, however, chose her own engagement ring from the Garrad catalogue.

The ring in question, now belonging to Kate Middleton, is a 12-carat blue Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds with an 18K white-gold band.

James Harris, Diamond Jewellery Consultant at Diamonds Factory, estimates Diana’s ring to be worth between £300,000 – £700,000.

Royal fans can get the look with a gorgeous prong-setting blue sapphire halo ring, on a more modest budget, from Diamonds Factory.

The blue sapphire halo ring costs £997 for the early Black Friday sale.

James exclusively spoke to Express.co.uk about Princess Diana’s iconic engagement ring.

He said: “Diana originally passed her ring down to Harry, who kindly gave it to William since he was the first to propose.

“Kate Middleton now proudly wears Diana’s large oval cut blue sapphire surrounded by 14 diamond solitaires.”
