A MUM who thought her microwave was about to break has revealed her “embarrassing mistake.”

The Australian woman had been worried as she thought the buttons on the device were starting to wear away beyond use.

On closer inspection, she realised that she had left the protective plastic on the machine for a staggering five years.

Seeing the funny side of the situation, she shared her tale on social media to give other people a laugh, and thousands have reacted.

She wrote on Facebook: “For years, I thought the buttons were wearing. Turns out I never took the plastic off.

“On the plus side, brand-new looking microwave.”

Her post has racked up over 1,500 comments in hours, with some saying they had made the same mistake.

One wrote: “I recently sat in the back seat of our car and realised the DVD players still have their protective plastic on them. I never sit in the back so never realised and the kids never mentioned it.”

Another added: “I found mine after three years. I was about to get cranky at the kids because it was gross after I had wiped it over and looked like the start button was melting.”

A shop worker revealed that “so many” customers make the same mistake and try and return items where the “plastic is ruined.”
