A mother from the US has shared an adorable photo which will restore your faith in humanity – and it’s just the tonic the world needs right now.
Courtney Thomas, from Atlanta, put a sign in front of her house for Halloween to explain that she couldn’t welcome trick or treaters this year, due to the fact her child with cancer is shielding.
The polite sign read: ‘Sorry, no candy, child with cancer. See you next year!’
But Courtney received an unexpected treat. When she went out into her front garden, she noticed that, underneath the sign, local children had left a pile of sweets for her sick child – who was unable to go out trick or treating this year.
The mum shared a photo of the sign and the sweet pile on Facebook, explaining that she couldn’t stop crying at the generous gesture.
She wrote: ‘If anyone thought there was no hope in our kids and teens you’re wrong.’
Courtney goes onto explain that footage on her doorbell camera shows children stopping to leave their edible goodies by their house.
In her post, she added: ‘Seriously… if the parents of anyone who did this sees this, PLEASE tell them how much it means to us and our kiddos. On the best candy night of the year kids freely and generously shared with strangers and showed so much love and kindness. So amazing.’
The feel-good post has since been shared nearly 200,000 times, with 127,000 likes and more than 11,000 comments.
Courtney finishes her Facebook post by leaving links to where people can donate to childhood cancer charities.
She says: ‘Childhood cancer is something we wish no family ever had to endure, but there is so much love, hope, and support!
‘If anyone feels led to support financially, these are two amazing groups we know of and are so thankful for: Cure Childhood Cancer and Rally Foundation.’
