As members of Britain's most famous family, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are used to having their every move scrutinised.

People love to pick apart everything they do – from criticising their fashion choices (we all remember the comments about Beatrice's choice of head wear for William and Kate's wedding) to questioning their relationships.

So it may come as no surprise to the York sisters that people have taken an interest in a recent outing they took with their partners in London.

Last week, Beatrice, 30, and Eugenie, 29, enjoyed a double date in Notting Hill, with Jack Brooksbank and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and the two royals raised a few eyebrows after a rather surprising photo from the evening began circulating online.

The picture shows Beatrice's boyfriend, Edoardo walking down the street in between the sisters.

Sounds innocent enough, right? But what's captured people's attention is that he isn't just holding his girlfriend's hand as he walks – he's also holding Eugenie's hand and her husband is further ahead, out of the shot.

While some thought the gesture a little unusual, it seems it's just a sign of the close relationship between the three, as Edo (as he is known by friends) has been an acquaintance of the York family for a long time.

According to People, the multi-millionaire property tycoon's late stepfather, Christopher Shale, was an old friend of Beatrice's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

Edoardo was previously engaged to Dara Huang, an architect with whom he shares a two-year-old daughter. They split in 2018.

Beatrice and Edo began dating last September, making their first public appearance as a couple in March 2019, when they attended a charity fundraiser at the National Portrait Gallery.

The pair were keen to keep their relationship low-key, but according to friends they are now happy to have it out in the open.

Some have even begun speculating that the two will tie the knot soon, after Edo reportedly moved into Beatrice's St James' Palace pad.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, a close friend of the royal said: "I don't know if he has actually got down on one knee with a ring yet, but they are openly talking about marriage and it will either be later this year or possibly early in 2020."
