The IT girls of 2021: Tatler names Romeo Beckham’s model girlfriend and Clash star Mick Jones’ daughter as the hottest new socialites – but how do they compare with the glamorous hellraisers of the 90s and noughties?

  • Society bible Tatler named their new generation of British It girls on the scene
  • Romeo Beckham’s girlfriend and Mick Jones’ daughter are among those on list
  • The magazine also compares the socialites to the It girls of the 90s and 00s

The It Girls of the nineties and noughties were notorious for their antics, flitting from party to party, embarking on scandalous love affairs and wearing skimpy clothing.

However now society bible Tatler has compiled the list of the new generation of socialites who are lighting up the social scene – and asking how they shape up compared to the legends who came before them.

Among those featured are Princess Diana’s twin nieces Lady Eliza and Amelia Spencer, 28, who the magazine compared to former model and actress Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, now 41.

Meanwhile ‘supremely popular’ Evie Henderson is said to be the new iteration of Noughties It Girl Lady Victoria Hervey, and Stella Jones, daughter of the Clash guitarist Mick Jones, is named the new rock chick on the scene after the rebellious socialite Amanda de Cadenet.

Here FEMAIL reveals where the It Girls of the 90s and 00s are now – and the young Millennials and Gen Z-ers who are following in their footsteps…

THEN: THE IT GIRL WITH ROYAL CONNECTIONS

Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe

The daughter of Mary-Gaye Curzon and property developer and former Chairman of the Watermark Group, John Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, Isabella was an It Girl with all the royal connections.

Her huge extended family include siblings like actress and former partner of Prince Harry, Cressida Bonas and actress Gabriella Calthorpe.

At one stage she was tipped to have caught the eye of Prince William before he went on to marry Kate Middleton.

However, Bellie’s concern that the association would impact her career led her to knock Prince William back.

Isabella was an It Girl with all the royal connections and she was tipped to have caught the eye of Prince William – before she went on to marry beau Sam Branson (pictured, aged 19)

After attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, she became a stage actress in 2005.

She appeared in a series of films, including Stage Beauty and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and the television series Harley Street and Trinity.

Her final  film appearance appears to have been in 2013, when she appeared in British crime film Fedz, the same year she married her now-husband Sam.

Speaking of her romance with Prince William, a royal source told the Daily Mail in 2007: ‘He had fallen for her in a huge way and wanted to be with her.

Society blonde Bellie married Sir Richard Branson’s son Sam in a glamorous ceremony on Sir Richard’s game reserve Ulusaba in South Africa in March 2013 (pictured together)

Isabella, who goes by Bellie to close friends and family, isn’t lacking in royal connections, attending Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle in October 2018

‘He propositioned her several times that summer and although Isabella was single, she knocked William back and said it would be too damaging for her and her career.’

The source went on: ‘William was madly in love with her but when he knew there was no chance of them getting together he went back to Kate.’

‘Kate was very aware of his obsession with Isabella and she was incredibly threatened by her.

‘Isabella is drop-dead beautiful and would leave any girl in the shade. Kate accepted William back again but on the condition that he would not speak to Isabella again.’

And while Bellie may have refuted the advances of Prince William, there were clearly no hard feeling and she was in attendance at his wedding to Kate in 2011.

The mother-of-two’s extended family includes Prince Harry’s ex girlfriend Cressida and Jacobi, who shared gushing messages on Instagram to mark her birthday

She has also remained close to other members of The Firm.

She attended Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in November 2018,

The glamorous twins, both 28, are the daughters of Charles Spencer and British model Victoria Aitken, and starred on the cover of Tatler’s March 2021 issue.

The girls are cousins of Prince Harry and, in another life, would be part of his party circuit, particularly as Lady Amelia is engaged to the appropriately named South African polo player Greg Mallett.

Lady Amelia, whose first name is actually Katya, and her twin sister Eliza grew up in the Constantia area of Cape Town with siblings Kitty and Louis.

The three sisters attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

Another royal wedding on the horizon? Lady Amelia announced her engagement to  South African polo player Greg Mallett last year

While Lady Kitty, Louis and Lady Eliza were present at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials in May 2018, Amelia was missing.

Amelia met her real estate beau of 11 years while they were both studying at the University of Cape Town.

Amelia is the latest Spencer sister to get engaged, after it was reported earlier this year that Lady Kitty is engaged to her 60-year-old beau, multi-millionaire Michael Lewis.

Greg is well-known by the Spencer clan and is already considered to be part of the family.

THEN: THE ENTREPRENEURIAL IT GIRL

Lady Victoria Hervey

Lady Victoria Hervey, once London’s most assiduous party-goer and celebrated It-girl, has had a life of drama and glamour, of loss redressed by hedonism.

At 6ft tall, she is an English model, socialite, aristocrat, and former ‘It girl’.

She is the daughter of the 6th Marquess of Bristol, half-sister of the 7th Marquess, and sister of the 8th Marquess and Lady Isabella Hervey.

For the first two years of her life Hervey lived at Ickworth House, the family seat in Suffolk, before her parents went into tax exile in Monaco.

At 6ft tall, she is an English model, socialite, aristocrat, and former ‘It girl’ who attracted plenty of attention in the late 90s and early 00s (pictured walking a runway in London Fashion Week in 2003)

At the time of her father’s death in 1985, when she was just eight-years-old, the family was living in an apartment at 1E Formentor, Avenue Princesse Grace, Monte Carlo, but still employing a butler and a nanny.

In April 2000, she and friend Jayne Blight opened Knightsbridge fashion boutique Akademi, which was frequented by Victoria Beckham, Meg Mathews and Martine McCutcheon.

The shop closed in 2001 with debts estimated at £350,000. She was reportedly only £20 out of pocket by the business failure but in the year following the closure, Victoria owed a series of personal debts.

She has since become a reality star, appearing in an early iteration of ITV’s Love Island in 2006 (pictured second from the left)

Since then, she has since become somewhat of a reality star, appearing in The Farm, a Five version of the RTÉ show Celebrity Farm, and The Jump.

The socialite even starred in an early iteration of ITV’s Love Island alongside Bianca Gascoigne and Kelle Bryan.

She ended up coupling with Pierce Brosnan’s estranged son Chris Brosnan, before she was dumped during week 2, therefore finishing in 9th Place.

Fifteen years ago, she moved to LA where she fell for brooding Irish actor Shane Brolly, best-known for his role as Kraven in the Underworld series

She recently hit the headlines after she claimed the Covid-19 crisis is the ‘biggest worldwide conspiracy that has ever happened.’

In February, she told MailOnline: ‘I’m not going to lie, I never wear one. The security guard in the shop called me over and told me I had to leave because I didn’t have one on. I stormed out.’

She dated Sean Stone, son of film director Oliver; then there was Seb Bishop, formerly CEO of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle company Goop; and actor Nathan Roberts.

Now her focus is on  Project Baby — and she has a prospective sperm donor/father lined up.

Six of her eggs were frozen and stored three years ago, at a cost of £11,000, and she spent the time afterwards looking for a donor.

The British-born TV host rose to fame during her high-profile marriage to the rock star Duran Duran bassist John Taylor by whom she became pregnant aged 18.

Growing up as what she described a ‘privileged white girl’ – having been born to successful Le Mans race car driver Alain de Cadenet and his fashion model wife Anna in the posh London neighborhood of Chelsea – her adolescent years took a turn for the worse when she ran away at 15.

She crashed at a squat for runaways in Soho, where she would be introduced to what London’s nightlife had to offer – drugs and casual sex.

It was her ’20-year-old’ body that she says got her access into sleazy nightclubs and hanging with the wrong crowd as an underage teen.

But her life on the run was short-lived after a drug-fueled night landed her in a juvenile detention center in West London.

Amanda is now married to The Stroke’s guitarist Nick Valensi and a prominent #MeToo activist and a longtime women’s rights activist

She was taken to a police station where officers believed she had been a victim of teen prostitution, and she raised more suspicions after admitting she was sexually active at the age of 15.

De Cadenet went on to move to Los Angeles and host The Conversation, and is now a photographer and media entrepreneur.

She reportedly also began dating her current husband The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi while he was romantically involved with her close friend, model Pearl Lowe.

De Cadenet and Valensi now have two children, twins Silvan and Ella, born in 2006.

Lady Theresa was far from the only blue-blooded one in the band, which was founded by Henry Somerset, 12th Duke of Beaufort.

She was ‘better known for her rear end, and the column inches of Debretts which describe its members, than for its music’, one critic concluded.

The socialite and rock star  was also no stranger to magazine covers – with Lord Snowdon snapping her for Vogue.
