World Cup 2022
The FIFA World Cup is set to return in 2022, with it taking place quadrennially.
The 2022 edition will be held in Qatar, marking the first time the competition has ever been held in the Arab states, and only the second time it has taken place in Asia.
The 22nd instalment of the FIFA World Cup will kick off on 21 November and continue all the way until 18 December.
England sealed their place in the competition in November 2021, and it's safe to say we'll all be cheering them on in 2022!
The 2022 Winter Olympics will take place in Beijing. The multi-sport event will kick off on 4 February and wrap up on 20 February.
Next year's Winter Olympics marks the first time the event has ever been held in China, with the last three instalments having been held in East Asia.
For the first time in history, the Winter Olympics will be hosted by a city that has previously hosted the Summer Olympics – the 2008 Summer Olympics were held in Beijing.
There's no doubt Team GB will be bringing home some medals!
The UK's largest music festival is set to make a triumphant return to Worthy Farm in 2022.
Glastonbury Festival, which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, is scheduled to take place from 22 June until 26 June.
So far the only act to be confirmed is singer Billie Eilish, who is preparing to take on the headliner slot in 2022.
Billie's appearance will mark her first ever festival headline performance in the UK, and will see her become the youngest ever solo artist to headline Glastonbury. Iconic!
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II will become the first ever British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking her record-breaking 70 years on the throne.
Her Majesty became Queen at just 25 years old, and now, age 95, will be celebrating her historic reign throughout 2022.
The Queen and several other members of the royal family will be undertaking numerous engagements across the year to mark the occasion, and an extended bank holiday has been scheduled for June.
The Platinum Jubilee Weekend will take place from Thursday 2 June until Sunday 5 June, with the four days being jam-packed with royal events, and will provide an opportunity to reflect on Queen Elizabeth's 70 years of service.
Little Mix: The Confetti Tour
Little Mix revealed in the final months of 2020 that they would be taking a break in the new year, all the while reassuring their fans they haven't split.
The trio announced their break will take place following the completion of their upcoming tour, which kicks off in April 2022.
Little Mix: The Confetti Tour will see the girlband take to the stage at numerous venues across the UK and Ireland, and many dates are already sold out.
Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jade's huge tour could mark their final performances before the break, making it a huge moment for their loyal legions of fans.
The BRIT Awards are set to make a huge return in 2022, with the nominations having been revealed in December 2021.
The unmissable ceremony will return to The O2 in London on 8 February with brand new host Mo Gilligan. The 2022 awards marks the first time gendered categories have been scrapped.
Those who have received nominations include Anne-Marie, Glass Animals and Mimi Webb. Chart-toppers Adele and Ed Sheeran have both received a staggering four nominations each, and we can't wait to see who wins!
Bridgerton: Season 2
We've been waiting for the second series of Bridgerton for what feels like forever, and in the new year it will finally be ours.
The immensely popular series is based on the bestselling historical romance novels by Julia Quinn, and proved an instant hit with Netflix users when it hit screens during Christmas 2020.
Less than a month after the first season was released, Netflix assured fans Bridgerton had been renewed for a second series, and the streaming giant has been teasing it ever since.
Filming wrapped up in November 2020, but the official release date is still being kept a secret, for now.
Peaky Blinders: Season 6
Peaky Blinders fans were sent into a frenzy when the show revealed a sixth series is on its way in 2022.
The highly anticipated news was announced on Twitter, with the show's official account writing: "Tommy Shelby returns in #PeakyBlinders series 6. 2022, on @BBCOne and @BBCiPlayer."
Peaky Blinders has became a firm favourite amongst viewers since the first season aired in 2013, but unfortunately the newly announced series marks the final instalment of the hit show.
It was previously teased that the new season will see "the story continue in another form", but no other spoilers have yet been leaked.
2022 will mark the end of an era for Jodie Whittaker, whose final episodes as Doctor Who will be aired.
Doctor Who: Flux was the final season of Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, meaning she’s now on a farewell tour, and like David Tennant, she will be starring a selection of special one-off episodes.
The Eve of the Daleks will air on January 1, in a New Year's Day special. A second special will air in early 2022, and a third will air later in the year marking Jodie's final farewell.
The two release dates are yet to be announced, but at least we can kick off the new year with brand new Doctor Who!
After Life: Season 3
Ricky Gervais is back once again, with After Life 3 is set to be released on Friday 14 January 2022.
The hit Netflix series has became wildly popular, and sees Ricky a local journalist named Tony who is struggling to cope with his grief in the wake of his wife Lisa’s death.
Unfortunately for After Life fans, season three marks the very last.
