Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips is continuing his meteoric rise as he travels out for international duty with England.

Phillips has made a seamless transition to Premier League football, and celebrated with a Three Lions call-up.

He will be hoping to impress Gareth Southgate in the friendly against Wales on Thursday.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa reportedly never wanted to push the boat out for Udinese star Rodrigo de Paul.

The Argentine midfielder was linked with a move to Elland Road for the last few weeks, but that never materialised.

Now The Athletic is reporting that boss Bielsa didn't pressure the board to meet Udinese's £36.8m valuation of De Paul.

A move for Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance also fell through – but Bielsa will continue to get the best out of what he has got.

Leeds United's new signing Raphina is ready to take his 'opportunity' after joining the Whites for £21m from Rennes.

Speaking to the club's website, the flying winger said: “I feel really satisfied and happy with the opportunity and trust the club has shown in me.

“I believe I can show my game and show the club my work and why they believed in me.

“I’m really happy to be here and I hope to, even in a small part, write my name in the club’s history.

“Together with my happiness, the happiness of the fans with my signing and the directors, I think we can all be happy together.”

Leeds left it late to land Brazilian speedster Raphinha from Rennes for around £16million.

The winger, 23, penned a four-year after bagging a goal and assist for the Ligue 1 club on Sunday.

The fee could rise to £20.6m despite the delay to announce his signature there was no need for a work permit because the Latin American holds an Italian passport.

The pacey forward only joined Rennes last summer after spells in Portugal for Vitoria Guimaraes and Sporting.

And he caught Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa’s eye cutting inside on to his left foot as Rennes qualified for the Champions League after finishing third last season.

Before his move was even announced, one confident fan went out of their way to change Raphinha's Wikipedia page.

It read: “Raphinha is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for Leeds as a winger.

“Raphinha is best known for being co-owner and chief cod catcher of Graveley's fish and chip shop on Elland Road.”

They also changed his place of birth from 'Porto Alegre, Brazil' to 'Batley, Leeds.'

And they have recorded nine new cases – one fewer than last week's tally of ten.

Both figures are higher than those recorded in the first fortnight of the season, in which three and four personnel tested positive respectively.

Leeds are set to make a late bid for Liverpool left-back Yasser Larouci, claim The Mirror.

Jurgen Klopp is prepared to let him leave the club as he is deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Several clubs have been credited with interest in Larouci, but Liverpool would prefer to offload him to an English side.

The 19-year-old, who made the move to Liverpool in 2017, has one year remaining on his contract.

Gillingham, Swindon, Portsmouth and now Charlton have been credited with interest in him.

Raphinha will cost Leeds United an initial payment of £15.2m plus £5.4m in add–ons, reports KEN LAWRENCE.

The Brazilian winger will sign a five year deal providing he passes his medical.

That looks like a bargain for Elland Road director of football Victor Orta, given that the money for the 23 year old had been agreed before he starred again for Rennes on Sunday night.

Raphinha scored one and made one in a 2–2 draw with Riems before being flown across the Channel to Leeds immediately after the game.

He only joined the Ligue 1 club from Sporting Lisbon a season ago for £15m then helped Rennes into the Champions League.
