  • MORNING, UNITED FANS

Manchester United are weighing up a shock move for Kasper Schmeichel to replace David De Gea as No 1 next season.

Leicester ace Schmeichel is seen as a ready-made option to come in, with De Gea suffering a huge slump in form and loan star Dean Henderson still at rookie level.

Schmeichel, son of Old Trafford legend Peter, still has three years left on his King Power deal.

But the 2016 title winner, 33, would be relatively cheap to buy compared to Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated Jan Oblak, 27, who has a release clause of around £109million.

SunSport understands United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has doubts over whether Henderson, 23, is ready for the top job, despite a stellar season on loan at Sheffield United.

And the Norwegian can no longer offer his blind support to error-prone De Gea, 29.

United could also be offered Juventus star Federico Bernardeschi with the Italian giants eager to land Chris Smalling in a summer swap deal.

Roma’s chances of signing the Red Devils centre-back appear to be disappearing with United refusing to drop their £18million price tag for the player.

Reports in Italy claim the Serie A side are still attempting to sign the 30-year-old, but are far from close to sealing a deal with the Old Trafford giants.

Elsewhere, Ryan Giggs has spoken highly of rumoured Red Devils target Jack Grealish.

He told the Webby and O'Neill YouTube channel: “I think the thing with Grealish is he’s obviously used to the Premier League and doesn’t need to adapt to it so that’s good.

“For me from the outside, it looks like he’s got the mentality to come to this place and not bother him. Certain players can get overawed.

“Also, the good thing this year is he’s got 10 goals and got into double figures so that would be one question mark I would have had with him: does he score enough goals? To get to double figures with no penalties for Villa is impressive.”

Manchester United are interested in a shock move for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News claim that boss Solskjaer is a big fan of the 19-year-old.

  • NEMANY HAPPY RETURNS

Manchester United posted several pictures of Nemanja Matic throughout the day to celebrate the Serbian midfielder's birthday.

  • KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY – EXCLUSIVE

  • LOCK CLOWN

Man utd icon Paul Scholes threw a huge party at his Oldham pad — on the day a new Covid lockdown was imposed.

The Manchester United legend went ahead with celebrations for son Arron’s 21st on the first day new anti-Covid regulations were imposed across a swathe of the North West.

Camera phone footage showed Arron singing karaoke wearing a “Lockdown Live” slogan T-shirt and partygoers ignoring social distancing as they drank and danced.

The party at Scholes’ £3.5million Oldham home, which went on until 2.30am, took place as 4.5 million people across the North West were banned from get-togethers in other people’s homes or gardens.

Tory MP Andrew Bridgen tonight accused TV pundit and ex-England midfielder Scholes, 45, of setting a bad example.

  • THE ONE FER US

Manchester United posted a Bruno Fernandes appreciation tweet to celebrate their Portuguese star's touch.

  • VONDERFUL VID

Nemanja Vidic still has so much respect for his old defensive partner Rio Ferdinand.

  • “He would do anything and everything that helped him to be better than he had been the previous day, and I liked that about him; I like that mentality.

He was also a really good guy, I quickly discovered. And a busy guy!

“He always has been, but in a good way. He was always interested in many things; music, investing… his mind is always working.

“I like that about him because I could talk with him about different things.”

  • “When I signed, Ferguson didn’t say at that time that he wanted to partner me with Rio, but he was clear that he was counting on me, expecting me to adapt fast and do what I do the best.

“In the beginning it wasn’t like everything was going really smoothly for me, but after five or six months I started performing on a level that everyone at the club was expecting from me.

“I believe at the time I joined, the boss wasn’t thinking of me and Rio as a great combination, he just wanted to have four central defenders he could switch, and that would play a big part in developing a strong defence.

“When I got to train with Rio, I could see all the attributes which made him so good. He was very fast, strong and technically one of the best defenders of the time.

“The main strengths for him are the speed, reading of the game and ability on the ball. I think those are his biggest abilities, but in general, he was just an all-round top player. He had everything.

“Maybe most important of all, maybe the main thing about him, was his love for football, and he showed that every day in training when he stayed doing extra work…

  • HE'S NEMAN

Nemanja Vidic says he is proud to be mentioned alongside Rio Ferdinand.

He said: “I have been asked before if it annoys me to be mentioned alongside Rio Ferdinand so much, rather than just as an individual.

“For me, it’s the opposite; I’m proud to be talked about as half of our partnership. I played with a lot of great players and he is definitely the best defender I ever played with.

“I was aware of Rio a long time before I came to play alongside him.

“When I came to United in January 2006, Rio was already at the club. At that time, you had two centre-back spots in the team and I think everyone knew that one of them belonged to Rio.

“He was the one player you knew would play. He already had a few years at the top level, he had great ability, I would say he was a leader at that time, the leader of the defence.”

  • SMALL SWAP

Manchester United could be offered Juventus star Federico Bernardeschi with the Italian giants eager to land Chris Smalling in a summer swap deal.

Juventus have reportedly been monitoring negotiations over the player between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and their Rome-based rivals, with a view to making their own bid.

Calciomercato claim the Serie A champions are rumoured to be uninterested in stumping up £18m for Smalling.

However, they are considering offering United Juve midfielder Bernardeschi as part of a swap deal for the former England star.

  • DELIGHTED DEVILS

Manchester United asked fans for their all-time favourite celebrations.

    Which one is yous?

  • JUST NOT THAT INTER YOU

Manchester United look set to miss out on transfer target Sandro Tonali with the midfielder to sign for Inter Milan, according to reports.

Brescia's teenage midfielder – dubbed the new Andrea Pirlo in his homeland for both his playing and hairstyles – has caught the eye of a number of top-class European sides this season.

Italian publication CorSera write how Antonio Conte's Inter are on the brink of concluding a £31.5million deal.

They even go as far as saying the club are expected to announce the signing on Monday evening.

It will come as a blow to United who had sent scouts to watch the rising star in action throughout the season.

  • SMALL MARGINS

AS Roma are running out of time to strike a deal with Manchester United for centre-back Chris Smalling.

The move must be agreed by midnight on Tuesday morning, if the defender is to be able to feature in the Italian's resumed Europa League campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are only willing to pay £2.7million upfront for another loan, with an obligation to make the move permanent for £10.8m at the end of next season.

Man United, however, are holding out for a £13.5m fee next summer after an initial £2.7m further loan spell.

  • NOT A BAD GIGG

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has spoken highly of rumoured Red Devils target Jack Grealish.

  • HURRY UP

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants club chiefs to “accelerate” their move for Jadon Sancho – in order to avoid the sort of drawn out deal the like of which was made for Harry Maguire last summer.

ESPN claim that United are in “pole position” to sign the England international from Borussia Dortmund.

But Red Devils chiefs believe that with time they can drive down BVB's £80million valuation – much to the apparent frustration of Solskjaer.

  • CAL IT QUITS

Manchester United are interested in a shock move for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News claim that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the 19-year-old.

The England international has struggled for game time of late with the Blues, following a long-term injury.

But he will be difficult to prise away from Stamford Bridge nonetheless, with Frank Lampard a fan of the talented forward player.

  • SMALL CHANGE

Juventus are interested in hijacking Roma's move for Chris Smalling, according to reports.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a positive loan spell in Serie A this season.

But with Roma dithering over matching United's asking price, champions Juve could pounce.

And according to Calciomercato, Maurizio Sarri's side are considering offering winger Federico Bernadeschi in part-exchange for the defender.

  • MAR OF THE SAME PLEASE

Anthony Martial was on fire in July!

Here are the Frenchman's strikes as the Premier League season finally wound to a close.

  • KEEP THE FAITH

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has backed under-fired stopper David de Gea, amid talk that Dean Henderson could replace the Spaniard between the sticks at Old Trafford next season.

The Dane told beinSports: “There is an English goalkeeper, young, on loan at Sheffield United, he's done fantastically well, he's very, very promising and it's a great story.

“[But] De Gea's one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League for the last I don't know how many years

“One of the things I believe is that the way Ole’s changed the way the team plays hasn’t fitted in with the way that De Gea has played in the last couple of years and so he would have had to make changes to his game.

“And in making changes you’re always making mistakes. If you don’t make mistakes, you don’t really learn.”

  • BIRTHDAY BOY

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has enjoyed an Old Trafford renaissance in the second half of this season.

    The Serb turns 32 today.

  • CHO TIME

Borussia Dortmund have told Manchester United: Pay £108million by August 10 or you won't get Jadon Sancho.

United chiefs thought they had sealed a £60m fee for the England winger, plus add-ons.

But Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has once again told Red Devils supremos to put up or shut up.

Zorc says the Germans do not want this dragging on over the whole of the transfer window, which opened on Monday July 27.

He claims the transfer is “purely a media topic”.

And he added: “There is no room for negotiation, €120 million is the only acceptable fee. Dortmund start their training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, on Aug 10, there will be no sale after that date.”

  • JUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING

Serie A champions Juventus have won the race to sign Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, according to reports.

The Mexican has been in fine form once again this season, prompting links with Manchester United.

But according to AS, the 29-year-old has decided to join Juventus instead.

  • FERGIE TIME

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has hailed his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson's ability to keep his squad “happy”.

He told UTD Podcast: “Fergie's main thing was to keep everyone happy. Ferguson kept Ando [Anderson] happy, as well!

“Ando, sometimes, can be in his own world. He's like a free bird, you know what I mean? He wants to be free, he wants to dance, he wants to sing, he wants to do this, he wants to do that… which is fine.

“But Fergie accepted that, and he let him be himself. He let him free sometimes. He let him make maybe sometimes a little bit of bad joke, whatever. It's fine.

“Fergie accepted everyone for the person he was, and made sure everyone was on the same page, but mainly [that] everyone was happy.”

  • COME OUR RAY

Both Manchester United and City have reportedly made an offer to sign Angers' left Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The 19-year-old made 17 appearances in the French top flight this season, having made three in his debut campaign last term.

His form is said to have attracted attention across Europe, with interest from Manchester increasing.

According to Foot Mercato, United and City have both approached Ait-Ait-Nouri's agent, Jorge Mendes, and offered the defender a deal.

It is claimed Mendes travelled to England with his client on Tuesday and visited the facilities of several clubs, including United and City.

  • MORNING, UTD FANS

Jadon Sancho is nearing a £60million switch to United – but they would have to pay £81m for Kalidou Koulibaly.

So if the latest speculation is true, England attacker Sancho IS set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer – in a deal that could be worth £100m after add-ons.

But centre-back Koulibaly seems increasingly LESS likely to end up at Old Trafford.

That follows the Senegal skipper's Napoli beating off reported late interest from United for Lille's Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Magalhaes' entourage are said to be in the UK for talks with United and Everton.

Lille owner Gerard Lopez admits the Brazil centre-back, 22, who has also been linked with Arsenal, is likely to leave in this transfer window.

United and City have both been linked with bids for Angers' left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The 19-year-old is also thought to have been watched by Atletico Madrid, Wolves, Leicester, PSG, Crystal Palace and Monaco.

And reports in Italy suggest Roma want Chris Smalling to spell out to parent club United his heart his set on making his loan spell permanent.
