CRISTIANO RONALDO has been tipped to quit Manchester United and create a "formidable partnership" with David Beckham at Inter Miami.

Things have not gone entirely to plan for the Portuguese superstar, 37, since returning to Old Trafford last summer.

He will go a full season without a trophy for the first in 12 years.

And there have been various public spats that led to Ronaldo being dropped for questioning his future at United.

He still has another year left to run on his initial two-year deal – but Garth Crooks reckons he should leave this summer and link up with fellow United legend and global superstar Becks.

Crooks told BBC Sport: “Old age comes to us all but its impact can be more visible in some than others.

"Ronaldo has scored an impressive 18 goals in 32 matches in all competitions this season but it is a far cry from his usual high standards of almost a goal every game when he was playing for Real Madrid.

"I am a huge admirer of Ronaldo.

"David Beckham and Ronaldo would make a formidable partnership in Miami.

"One thing is for sure, the five-time Ballon D'or winner doesn't need the money.”

Ronaldo has expressed his desire to play into his 40s – with the prospect of featuring alongside his son Cristiano Jr particularly appealing.

International team-mate Jose Fonte expects him to keep going beyond Euro 2024.

And for someone widely considered as one of the greatest footballers of all time, he will want to keep on delivering at the top level for as long as possible.

A return to Portugal and Sporting Lisbon after United has been suggested.

But the MLS could be a more suitable option than the Middle or Far East.

Beckham himself, Wayne Rooney, Kaka and Zlatan Ibrahimovich are among the long list of elite players to have a spell stateside towards the end of their careers.

And the chance to link up with Becks and boost Inter Miami's profile on and off the pitch could be the ideal swansong for a serial winner and worldwide celebrity like Ronaldo.

The Herons – founded in 2018 – currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference, winless this season with manager Phil Neville at risk of losing his job.

Ronaldo may even end up playing alongside Lionel Messi out there, too, with suggestions the Argentine could make a similar switch when his time at PSG is done.
