NFL star’s sexual assault case takes ‘settlement’ twist
NFL responds to lawyer’s claim star QB’s accusers aren’t being ‘respected’
Deshaun Watson’s Texans fate could be sealed with 2021 season in doubt
Deshaun Watson has returned from his months-long social media hiatus following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The Houston Texans quarterback shared a series of videos to his Instagram story during indoor and outdoor workouts on Wednesday. It marked his first social media post since March 16, when he shared a statement to Twitter refuting allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual assault.
Twenty-two women, mostly massage therapists, filed civil lawsuits against Watson, who has denied the allegations through attorney Rusty Hardin. One accuser dropped her case due to privacy and security concerns, leaving 21 ongoing suits.
Watson has not been charged criminally and the NFL opened an investigation into the allegations on March 18.
In the clips posted Wednesday, Watson is seen taking part in various on-field drills and gym workouts.
The three-time Pro Bowler’s future with the Texans was shaky even before the women came forward.
The 25-year-old, who was selected 12th overall by Houston in the 2017 NFL Draft, requested a trade from the Texans in January over discontent with management and reportedly told new head coach David Culley that he refused to play in Houston.
Watson has kept a low profile since the accusations. His girlfriend, model Jilly Anais, appears to be sticking by Watson after posting photos of the two on vacation last month.
In September 2020, Watson signed a four-year contract extension worth nearly $111 million guaranteed.
