Glen Durrant has no doubt seen the funny side to his World Darts Championship disaster after making a hilarious comparison to newly crowned world champ Peter Wright.

Wright secured his second world title with an enthralling 7-5 win over Michael Smith at the Alexander Palace on Monday evening, to cap off a remarkable few weeks of darts in the capital.

For Durrant though it was no doubt a tournament to forget, as he crashed out at the first attempt after being blown away by Irishman William O’Conner 3-0.

Despite his nightmare at the worlds, the 51-year-old was able to see the light-hearted side the morning after Wright’s finale with Smith.

Durrant took to Twitter to share his joke as he posted a picture of him at a tip, with the caption: “Peter Wright wakes up World Champion, Glen Durrant wakes up and goes to the Tip Shabba”

A number of the former BDO world champion’s fans took to the replies to share their laughs with the darts star, including former Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers defender David Wheater.

Wheater tweeted: “Let me know next tip run I’ll come with you, need to get rid of some s***.”

Durrant endured a treacherous 2021 campaign, in what was no doubt one of the worst of his successful career.

Despite becoming Premier League darts champion at the first time of asking in 2020, the 51-year-old finished rock bottom of the table last season without a single point to his name.

Whilst his exit from this year’s worlds was another kick in the teeth for Duzza, he did reveal ahead of the defeat that he feels much more positive about his game heading into the New Year.

He told the BBC: “I am seeing real positives. I am not where I want to be of course but I think the worst is over. We're moving onwards and upwards now.

“Sometimes you're overthinking, you just have to throw the dart. Your body changes as you get older, you don't throw the same."

And this positivity and support was also echoed by his fans in the replies to his hilarious Tuesday morning tweet, as one user – @JimmyK55261461 – responded: “All the best for 2022 Duzza! Keep your chin up! Positive vibes”
