Dwayne Haskins sounds miserable
Dwayne Haskins survived a maskless stripper party, but not another predictably woeful performance.
Washington released the disappointing quarterback on Monday with one week to go in the season – and the team still playing for the NFC East with plenty of uncertainty at the position.
MMQB.com reported that Washington contemplated such a move last week when pictures of the former Ohio State star partying with strippers surfaced. However, the team’s hierarchy decided it would have been unfair to the rest of the players to do so.
Haskins became expendable after he completed 14 of 28 passes for 154 yards and two interceptions in a 20-13 loss to the Panthers. He was replaced late in the game by Taylor Heinicke, who far outplayed Haskins and led the team on their lone touchdown drive in a futile comeback attempt.
Washington then decided that another week’s worth of Haskins questions would be detrimental for his teammates, as they still can win the woeful NFC East with a win over the Eagles on Sunday night.
“My time with the WFT has unfortunately come to an end,” Haskins tweeted Monday. “I thank the team & the fans for the opportunity to play for the team I grew up rooting for. I take full responsibility for not meeting the standards of a NFL QB & will become a better man & player because of this experience.”
Heinicke, a 27-year-old journeyman who starred at Old Dominion, will get the start in Philadelphia if veteran starter Alex Smith is not ready to return from his calf strain.
Smith was “very close” to playing in Week 16, according to head coach Ron Rivera, making a Week 17 return a legitimate possibility.
