FORMER UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has branded Dana White an 'egotistical tyrant' and accused the promotion's president of trying to 'beat' him 'down mentally' after losing the belt.

The 36-year-old is eyeing a summer return to the octagon but has yet to come to terms with the promotion.

And the former Strikeforce 185lb champion admits he isn't a fan of how the promotion conducts its business.

During an appearance on the Rippin’ It podcast, he said: “Fighting is like a mafia.

"They have these very mafioso-type tactics in negotiations, they try to f**k with you. I’m not having any of it.

“If you don’t know your worth someone will tell you your worth and it’ll be less than your worth, so know your worth."

Rockhold's reign short-lived reign as 185lb king came to an end at UFC 199 in June 2016 courtesy of a first-round KO defeat to Michael Bisping.

And the American Kickboxing Academy standout claims White tried to belittle him after he lost the title.

He added: "Once I lost the world title, Dana White came up to me and tried to beat me down mentally and I was like ‘f–k you,’ straight up.

"I was like I’m going to go do my own thing, if you’re going to try and offer me this and that bull–it, you know who I am and what I did, that’s the only reason I went out and got a modeling contract so I could leverage myself.”

Rockhold, like many others, news the UFC needs a union or a governing body to ensure fighters are treated fairly.

He said: “We don’t have the governing body. We’ve got an egotistical guy that’s a bit of a tyrant.

“No one is going to try and fight you, you’ve got to put your ass on the line, stand your ground, take risks, otherwise you get treated like a b***h.

"It’s unfortunate, a guy like that, he thinks he can fight, he thinks he’s a fighter.

"I don’t understand why he’s trying to belittle all the fighters when you’ve never fought a day in your life.

"You’re a promoter. We need a governing body to give people what they deserve, he doesn’t play the game right.”

Rockhold hasn't set foot inside the octagon since his July 2019 showdown with light-heavyweight king Jan Blachowicz, which he lost via second-round KO.

The itch to compete again has once again consumed Rockhold, although he won't return for any old fight.

He told Submission Radio: "I want to come back for something that gets me excited, and I want to come back when I’m ready, when my body’s ready.

"And I think early, late summer would be ideal. It’s just matching up with the right person and the right thing that’s going to put me to where I want. I’m not looking to just play around.

“I wanna go straight to the gut of this division and most likely 185. Not ruling out 205, but I really just gotta push my body to get in shape and see where it wants to go."
