5pm Transfer news LIVE: Guardiola and Silva in Man City bust-up, Mourinho eyeing Tottenham job, and Messi could be banned from UK – The Sun

THE transfer window is drawing ever closer and a number of teams will be looking to make sweeping changes to their squads.

Chelsea will hope to make up for lost time if their ban is overturned, while underachievers Tottenham and Man Utd will also be keen to dip into the market.

  • MANCHESTER UNITED are trailing new Mexico playmaker Sebastian Cordova, reports say.

Old Trafford scouts are thought to have watched the 22-year-old's impressive international debut last Thursday.

Sevilla and Benfica have also been linked with the attacking midfielder, who helped Club America win the Mexico Cup in April.

Now Mexican website Record suggest United are among Cordova's rising list of admirers, especially after his display in last week's 2-0 friendly win over Trinidad & Tobago.

  • OLE GUNNAR Solskjaer needs £300m to fix Manchester United and should sign someone like Tottenham’s Harry Kane, according to Lee Sharpe.

He told talkSPORT: “I think you are looking at least £300million.

“You need someone like a Harry Kane for £200m/£220m that is going to score you 25 goals a season and you’ve got a different outlook in the team. So it is not going to be a cheap one.

“It’s difficult to keep up with the likes of Man City and Liverpool when they’ve set such high standards.

“You’ve got to stop comparing this team to Liverpool and City and great United teams of the past.

“They need to be given the chance to grow and educate themselves and become potentially what they could be in a year or 18 months’ time.”

  • JOSE MOURINHO is keeping an eye on Mauricio Pochettino's future at Tottenham, it has been claimed.

Mourinho is currently waiting for the right opportunity to come up before he makes a return to management.

And according to the Mail, the prospect of a potential vacancy at Spurs is keeping him interested.

Pochettino's future at Tottenham has been in some doubt ever since he admitted at the end of last season that he may have quit if the club had won the Champions League.

And the Argentine's situation has not been helped by major frustrations over the club's transfer business.

  • AARON CRESSWELL is in line to land a new two-deal at West Ham.

The left-back is currently contracted at the London Stadium until 2021.

But Cresswell, 29, has delivered some decent performances for West Ham this season and is likely to be rewarded with a fresh deal keeping him at the club until 2023.

He has proved to be a bargain £3.75million transfer since joining from Ipswich in 2014 and has made 184 appearances for West Ham.

  • MANCHESTER CITY are reportedly set to battle it out with Chelsea in the race to sign Dinamo Zagreb starlet Antonio Marin.

The 18-year-old has been heralded as one of Croatia's most exciting prospects, with the winger already featuring in four league games for the senior side this season.

His performances have caught the eye of a number of clubs as they look to land the teenager.

According to Sky Sports, City are keeping tabs on the player as they weigh up a move for Marin.

But they face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, as well as La Liga outfit Villarreal, who are also monitoring his situation.

Aand Maddison, who can play out wide or as an attacking midfielder, has an amazing tally of five goals and six assists from his nine games this season.

Now Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has laughed off the rumours when replying to a Derby fan's tweet asking if they had any truth.

  • JUVENTUS are keeping a close eye on Chelsea ace Willian, according to Tuttosport.

The source claims the Italian giants could make a move for the Brazilian if he becomes a free agent next summer.

Willian's Chelsea contract is up then, and there hasn't been talk of him extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.

That means Juve could begin negotiations with the player in January ahead of a move six months later.

The wantaway Brazilian was heavily linked with a summer move to Los Blancos as well as a return to Spanish rivals Barcelona.

Speaking about a potential move in the coming months, Lloris claimed: “I still have a few years ahead of me. In any case, I will do everything to make the most of it.

“You also have to know when to say stop at the right time, but I'm not against the idea of discovering something new.

CLUBS are preparing for a winter spending spree, with Chelsea hoping to be back in action.

The Blues are hoping to not only overturn their transfer ban but also sign Callum Hudson-Odoi to a new deal – but it is a case of 'what could have been' for Arsenal, having nearly acquired new England superstar Jadon Sancho.

Follow all the latest transfer news and gossip here…

  • ARSENAL could have signed Jadon Sancho, Arsene Wenger has revealed.

Sancho left Manchester City as a teenager despite being offered a record-breaking £35,000 a week by the club to stay at their academy.

Instead he went to Borussia Dortmund where he became one of Europe's most sought after players – but ex-Arsenal boss Wenger says his life could have been very different.

Speaking on beIN Sports: “I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get the games.

“I tried to lure him because he's from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal. He's one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance.

“There's something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there.”

  • MANCHESTER UNITED are set to battle it out with neighbours City for £91m Portuguese whizkid Florentino Luis.

Old Trafford chiefs sent scouts to watch the Portugal Under-20 star at Benfica.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder played 15 games for the Portuguese giants last season after stepping up from the Benfica B team in February.

He is set to play a key role this season in the Primeira Liga and the Champions League.

Benfica have a release clause of 100 million euros or £91m for a player they have huge high hopes for.

Portuguese outlet A Bola reports that members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff watched Benfica’s 4-0 win at Braga last Sunday.

  • NABIL FEKIR was linked with almost every club in England but Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea emerged as the leading contenders in the summer of 2018.

Fekir was within a few hours of signing for Liverpool but the deal fell through – and now the then-Lyon star has spoken out about why.

Stories emerged that the Reds had concerns about his knee and Arsenal and Chelsea appeared to abandon their interest after that reservation too.

But Fekir has refuted that injury or off-field issues blocked the transfer.

Fekir told French newspaper L'Equipe: “It’s a lie […] Lots of lies were told and they affected me, especially those told about my family.

“It hurt them and me, especially when you know that what’s being told is false.

“You want the truth? Even I don’t know, I promise you!

“I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me.

“At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee, but an excuse needed to be found.”

  • ALAN SHEARER reckons Manchester United have taken a 'huge gamble' in the summer transfer market.

Writing in his exclusive column for SunSport, Shearer highlighted that United would probably need to rely on Marcus Rashford for goals after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku.

Both Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez joined Inter Milan over the summer but United did not sign a striker.

And ex-England forward Shearer reckons it could come back to bite them.

Shearer wrote: “They have taken a huge gamble by not replacing Lukaku.

“Going into the season with just Marcus, Martial and Mason Greenwood is very risky and that is a huge burden for those three to carry over a long campaign.”

  • CHELSEA are fighting to cut short their ban on signing players and have reportedly identified Youcef Atal as a target should they succeed.

The full-back played 29 times as Nice reached seventh in last season's Ligue 1 and is seen at Chelsea as a long-term replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta.

But according to Calciomercato, Chelsea will face competition from Valencia for Atal's signature.

They will also have to convince the Court of Arbitration for Sport that they have served their time for flouting FIFA rules on signing young players.

An appeal to the two-window punishment is still due to be heard and Chelsea hope to have the period halved with Blues bosses telling agents they expect to be active in the January transfer window.

Arsenal transfer boost as Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang prepare to sell star Yannick Carrasco – The Sun

ARSENAL could be in with a chance of signing long-term target Yannick Carrasco with reports suggesting his club Dalian Yifang are lining up a replacement.

The Gunners missed out on the Belgium international when he left Atletico Madrid back in 2018.

The 26-year-old instead opted to join Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang where he now plays under former Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez.

Carrasco reportedly earns close to £175,000 a week in China and may have to take a wage cut if he returns to Europe.

But it appears increasingly likely that he will do so because Italian outlet Calciomercato reckons his employers have already identified his replacement.

The Chinese club are reportedly set to make a move for Napoli's Dries Mertens in January.

The 32-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and if he is not offered a new one he will be able to start talks with other clubs after Christmas.

If he were to sign for Benitez's side, it could clear the way for his Belgium team-mate to swap places with him and complete his return to top-level football.

Back in March, Carrasco said: “I would love to return to Europe. A lot of clubs were interested in me.

“We tried to find a solution in January that would enable me to leave Dalian Yifang. But I can understand the club’s thinking. They wanted me to stay.

“I still feel OK in China. But I have lost my starting place in the Belgian national side. This can happen with a team of their quality.

“With the level of competition there will always be times when you don’t get to play a lot.”

2.30pm transfer news LIVE: Chelsea want six in January, Messi set for ‘life contract’ at Barcelona, De Gea to Juventus – The Sun

DEADLINE DAY may have passed for most of Europe, but the world's biggest clubs, including Chelsea, are lining up for a winter spending spree.

And the Premier League has its first managerial casualty with usual suspects Watford replacing Javi Gracia with Quique Flores.

  • UNAI EMERY wanted to delay Nacho Monreal's Arsenal departure so he could play in the North London derby, it has been claimed.

The Spanish veteran left-back departed for Real Sociedad just 24 hours before the Gunners 2-2 draw at home to their bitter rivals.

But Spanish boss Emery wanted the 33-year-old to stay a little longer, according to the Athletic.

Sead Kolasinac played instead of Monreal and put in a very accomplished performance.

  • CHELSEA are reportedly confident of being able to return to the transfer market with a vengeance in January, but who will be first on their radar?

FIFA's transfer ban prevented them from signing players in the summer, even if they brought in Christian Pulisic and made Mateo Kovacic's move permanent regardless.

Here Sun Sport looks into who might be top of the manager's wishlist.

    Wilfried Zaha

Arsenal and Everton failed with summer bids for the Crystal Palace winger but it could have been a different story had Chelsea been in the market.

    Ben Chilwell

Interest in the Leicester defender is high and Lampard has earmarked left-back as a key area for improvement.

    Ruben Dias

Reports in Portugal say that the Blues have been scouting Benfica avidly in recent months and standout defender Dias has caught their eye.

    Kristof Piatek

Notching 11 goals since signing from Genoa in January, the Polish star may find his head turned if the Rossoneri don't start the season well.

    Houssem Aouar

After Tanguy Ndombele banked Lyon over £60m from his move to Tottenham, the latest hot young midfielder coming through the Ligue 1 club is local lad Aouar.

Former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri was a big fan of the 21-year-old playmaker as he broke into Les Gones' first-team.

  • CRYSTAL PALACE sent scouts to watch Zenit Saint Petersburg striker Artem Dzyuba, according to Russian reports.

The 31-year-old bagged the Russian's opener in their 2-1 win at Hampden Park on Friday and the Eagles were one of “several” English clubs in attendance.

Everton and Wolves representatives were also present, according to Federal News Agency.

  • MANCHESTER UNITED flop Matteo Darmian has admitted he “would do it all again” despite being frozen out at Old Trafford.

The right-back joined Italian club Parma last week for £1.4million after a disappointing spell at United following his £12.9m transfer from Torino in 2015.

He made just seven appearances for United in all competitions last season, failing to impress new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But Darmian said: “Signing for Manchester United was easy.

“It was a source of pride and responsibility to wear such an important shirt.

“It’s an experience I’d do all over again, on and off the field.

“I really wanted to play and the lure of returning to Italy pushed me to leave Manchester.

“A professional must always accept the coach’s decisions. You have to work hard to be ready.

  • RANGERS fans had some good news on Monday following their dismal 2-0 Old Firm loss at home to Celtic.

Ryan Kent joins from Liverpool on a four-year deal.

  • NEYMAR has been crying out for a return to Barcelona for months.

But he remains a Paris-Saint Germain player until at least January after a deal between the two clubs could not be reached.

The Brazilian superstar has been calling for reunion with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Camp Nou for some time, yet admitted to his teammates and family on Monday that he would remain in the French capital for the foreseeable future.

It was quite a day for the Parisians as the transfer window closed shut.

Not content with having Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler and Pablo Sarabia in attacking positions – they added Mauro Icardi to mix after he completed a loan move from Inter Milan.

And that deal is being reported to include an inclusive £64m (70m euros) option to buy next summer.

Meanwhile, they also had a change of goalkeepers, with Keylor Navas moving to PSG on a permanent deal, making him their third arrival between the sticks this summer after Sergio Rico and Marcin Bulka joined.

Yet, the Costa Rican shot-stopper’s signing coincided with Alphonse Areola going the other way to Real Madrid on a season-long loan.

As for English clubs, the biggest transfer on deadline day was Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining Roma for the season from Arsenal.

It represents a major coup for the Gunners, who will not have to pay a penny of his £180,000-a-week wages during his time in Italy, allowing for some more savings and chances for the younger starlets.

  • WOW!

New boss Keith Hill has managed to recruit a whopping nine players.

And they perhaps saved the best until last with the addition of veteran striker Daryl Murphy from Nottingham Forest.

Here's a list of their activity

  • Kilmarnock want to bring Scotland Under 21 international Harvey St Clair in before the end of the window.

The forward, 20, was a member of Chelsea's youth team while Angelo Alessio was there as part of Antonio Conte’s backroom team.

However, he has only made one appearance so far this season.

With wages of around £180,000 a week, the North Londoners will be happy to have regained some more money, following a big summer of transfers.

Alex Iwobi also left Arsenal in recent months, while Danny Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech all departed for free.

  • ANOTHER Manchester United man has departed Old Trafford today.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan.

This is the fourth loan of the 22-year-old’s, who was handed his debut by Louis van Gaal for the Red Devils in 2015, career.
