Coronation Street favourite Alan Halsall fears his affair plot will make him a hate figure.

His character Tyrone Dobbs has left long-term love Fiz Stape heartbroken by cheating with flirty Alina Pop.

And the actor is braced for a backlash when he goes out in public.

Alan, 38, told the Daily Star Sunday: “Tyrone is quite a simple fella. Future thinking isn’t his strong point. He gets his head turned by an attractive girl and it’s exciting for him.

“He has become a bit more selfish. It’s the first time we have seen that from him.

“People have always seen the softer side of Tyrone. But I don’t think he will have the public on his side this time.

“I don’t think Tyrone will get away with it. I think he’ll be portrayed as the bad lad, and rightly so.” He joked: I’m sure I’ll get a clip around the ear in Tesco a few times for this.”

The affair looks set to spell the end for Tyrone and Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), who have been one of Corrie’s best-loved couples for almost two decades.

Alan added: “People will see the destruction of a family. We’ll see the devastation for Fiz and the children. I think people relate heavily to that.”

Alan has played Tyrone on Corrie for more than 23 years. He said he was stunned when producers told him about the storyline because it was so out of character.

He said: “I was shocked, to be honest. It did come as a bit of a surprise to me. Then you start to think of your own selfish things as an actor.
