EASTENDERS fans are convinced that Tamzin Outhwaite has secretly quit the soap and her onscreen son Hunter will return for her exit storyline.

The actress, who plays Mel Owen,  was only supposed to return to the BBC soap for a year but her script was extended.

But viewers think her time is nearly up and it will coincide with Hunter's (Charlie Winter) brief return to the show later this year.

The character is currently banged up in prison after shooting dead his stepdad Ray Kelly (Sean Mahon) in early January.

Discussing his return on an EastEnders forum, one fan questioned: “If Mel’s leaving, a visit before her exit?”

Another speculated: “I suspect this is for Mel's departure.”

While another person remarked: “Surely it can only be for an exit storyline for Mel? We know Tamzin Outhwaite won’t stick around for years.”

Speaking about her time on the show last year, Tamzin revealed:  "They tell you about the projected [storylines], what's going to happen in the future, possibly for the next year.

"So, I was going to be there for a year, and now I've extended it to be there a bit longer, because I'm having such a good time."

Yesterday it was confirmed that Charlie Winter would be back on screen later this year.

Hunter hasn't been seen on our screens since April 12th when his mu visited him in jail and offered him words of encouragement.

Charlie made his EastEnders debut in February 2018, and earlier this year Tamzin admitted she was "very sad" to see him depart the soap.

She said: "I feel very sad about not working with Charlie. He has a very bright future, so I'm excited for him as well."
