EastEnders viewers were reduced to tears on Friday evening as the BBC soap paid tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor following the news of her tragic death.
As the famous theme tune played and the credits rolled out, a black screen appeared with white writing which read: "In loving memory of Dame Barbara Windsor MBE 1937-2020."
Actress Barbara, who played Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell in the serial drama from 1994 until 2014, has died aged 83.
Tributes remembering the bubbly soap icon have flooded social media since EastEnders shared the emotional tribute at the end of Friday's show.
One soap fan penned: "Nice tribute to Barbara at the end."
An second emotional person tweeted: "The Barbara tribute at the end" alongside a crying emoji.
Another added: "Tonight's episode of EastEnders has been dedicated to our National Treasure. Yay!"
While a fourth said: "A beautiful tribute to remind us of a remarkable lady who we've lost last night. Londons East-end legend one queen who I will always treasure. Peggy Mitchell won't be forgotten."
Barbara's husband Scott Mitchell confirmed the sad news that she had died peacefully from Alzheimer's at a London care home on Thursday evening.
He said she would be remembered for the "love, fun, friendship and brightness she brought to all our lives".
National treasure Barbara was diagnosed with dementia in 2014.
She rose to fame after her appearances in the Carry On films and received a BAFTA Award nomination for Sparrows Can't Sing in 1983.
The TV personality had been battling dementia for many years, and spent the last few months of her life in a care home.
Daniella Westbrook who played Barbara's' onscreen daughter led the tributes earlier today (December 11) and tweeted: "Today we lost a legend a national treasure and a woman who I looked up too for most off my life.
"A generous warm funny humble and beautiful lady & someone who gave us all much joy watching her act.
"A woman who I was lucky enough to work with for many years as my mum & a loyal friend.
"The brightest off all stars will now shine above us instead off among us. Sending my love to Scott at this sad time. My heart is heavy broken in two . Bar I love you. Rest In Peace my queen . Goodnight and God bless you."
A representative for actor Steve McFadden, who plays Barbara's on-screen son Phil Mitchell, told PA he was "devastated"
Ross Kemp, who played Peggy's son Grant Mitchell, had a close friendship with the actress since they first met on set in the mid-90s.
Taking to Twitter on Friday evening, the actor paid a sensitive tribute to her life and legacy, reaching out to her beloved husband Scott Mitchell.
He said: "Dame Barbara Windsor, the woman who always had time for everybody, has sadly left us. I will miss Bar always.
"My thoughts are with her husband Scott, who could have done no more and who stayed strong for her to the very end."
