EastEnders star Kellie Bright has spoken about how she hopes Linda Carter will find ‘fulfilment’ in life following her decision to leave The Queen Vic.

Linda struggled with her addiction to alcohol last year, and after a near-death experience earlier this year on board a party boat on the Thames, she admitted that she was an alcoholic.

Devoted husband Mick (Danny Dyer) suggested that they leave the pub in an effort to assist with her recovery, and Linda ultimately agreed.

Since the BBC One soap returned to screens on September 7, Linda has been adapting to a world out from behind the bar, with a new job in the launderette.

Speaking in the next issue of Inside Soap about Linda’s new chapter, actress Kellie Bright said: ‘I actually really enjoy working in the launderette! I think Linda likes it too, because she likes to keep busy.

‘But for her, working behind the bar at The Vic was a vocation, not a job – she’d done it her whole life. And I think that has had an impact on her, not having that platform anymore, not being where she’s always known.’

‘So I really hope she manages to get some sense of purpose back soon, and some kind of fulfilment in her life.’

Kellie also pointed out the importance of Linda’s struggle with alcohol being a long-term story. She said: ‘I’m pleased that she wasn’t just perfectly fine once she reached that point where she gets help.

‘It certainly wouldn’t be easy throughout lockdown and all of that – that would bring up its own stuff for Linda. So she’s still going to be working through a lot of that.

‘However, I hope she stays sober, and that she and Mick can manage to find their way through whatever they need to find their way through.’

EastEnders continues Monday October 19 at 8:10pm on BBC One.
