I'M A Celebrity star Richard Madeley has revealed that a "funny turn" caused his hospital dash that saw him forced out of the competition.

The Good Morning Britain presenter looked back on his unexpected early departure from the ITV show after just a few days in camp.

Richard, 65, was forced out of the ITV reality show after just four days when he suffered a health scare and was rushed to hospital.

Having broken the Covid bubble created for the show, the journalist was told he could not go back into Gwrych Castle to join his co-stars.

Now, the star has detailed on I'm A Celeb special Legends Of The Castle how his health took a "funny" turn just three days into the show.

He was joined by "friend and ally" Arlene Phillips as they reflected on their turbulent time within the walls of Gwrych Castle.

"I think what happened was, I can only describe it as a funny turn, so I was carted off to hospital," Richard told the cameras.

Richard, who was rumoured to have been paid £200,000 to appear on the show – previously cited dehydration and lack of sleep as the reason for his departure.

He told his GMB co-stars last week: "I think I got dehydrated. It was actually quite disturbing. I'd been up for 20 hours, I don't think I got to bed until 4:30."

The journalist had sparked concern among fans at home who noticed him shivering following his frist trial, diving into cold fish guts.

But Richard later denied that it was the trial that made him ill, insisting that it was not "dangerous" in any way but was "impossible to achieve".

"I did that trial 36 hours before I fell ill. I do feel the trial was un-doable but it was not to do with why I fell ill," he explained.

Despite his short time on the show, Richard still had an opportunity to get stuck in with the Bushtucker Trials, as he was voted in by the public watching from home.

In Legends Of The Castle, the star could be heard mulling over the reasons why he was voted in for the first trials.

Viewers were left heartbroken as Richard speculated with his fellow celebs that it could be because those watching at home "because they hated him".

"Have I been picked because people hate me?" he could be heard asking as he looked back over his days in the ITV competition.

Fans immediately flooded Twitter to show their support for Richard, and gush over how they wished he had "more time" before he was forced to leave.

"I still feel quite sorry for Richard. He was barely in it," one viewer responded.

"It's a shame Richard didn't stay longer, it would of been good to see him more," a second chimed in, as a third agreed: "I’m sad he had to leave early."
