We’ve not seen Emmerdale vet Vanessa Woodfield on screen for a year, after she left the village to stay with her mum following a shock cancer diagnosis.

But in real life, actress Michelle Hardwick has been on maternity leave, and gave birth to her first child, a son named Teddy, in October.

And while fans wait for Vanessa’s return to the Dales, Michelle’s been enjoying her free time, as she and her Emmerdale producer wife Kate took Teddy for his first family holiday in Wales.

Michelle and Emma wed wed in September 2019 at Elvis’s Tennessee home, before welcoming Teddy a year later.

Speaking about the wedding on This Morning, Michelle told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “We got married at Graceland in Memphis.”

“I love Elvis, my dad is a massive Elvis fan, and Kate loves Elvis as well.”

"We thought, 'We want to get married somewhere different, we love America…’”

But thanks to Covid, the family had to stay closer to home for this year’s summer break, opting for a trip to Wales, which included a visit to Snowdonia National Park.

Not that it mattered to the doting couple, who relished introducing their lad to some outstanding scenery.

And as she posted pictures on Instagram, Michelle took the opportunity to tell fans it was wife Kate’s birthday.

“Happy birthday to my absolute world. First birthday as a Mama, we love you so very much Kate," she wrote.

"Thank you for the best first family holiday this week in beautiful North Wales.”

Another picture from the trip showed Michelle holding Teddy on a jetty, and her message summed up the holiday.

“Our first holiday as a family of four was amazing," she write. "We created special memories that will stay with us forever.”

We assume the fourth member of the gang was the couple’s dog Fred, who they’ve previously referred to as Teddy’s big brother.

But it seems life hasn’t been quite as tranquil since their return, as Michelle added: “Didn’t appreciate the Covid on our return but we’re through the worst of it now.”

Let’s hope so – Michelle will need all her energy for her Emmerdale return. With Charity for a partner it won’t be long before there are fireworks!
