Dr Hillary has slammed Boris Johnson for not wearing a mask during a hospital visit on Monday, saying “he should be setting an example”. The Prime Minister was seen not wearing a face-covering during a visit to Hexham general hospital in Northumberland as he spoke to staff and took pictures. 

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid said: “The rules on wearing masks indoors are starting to loosen up now I have to wear a mask anymore inside.

“But surely in a clinical setting in a hospital that you do.” 

Dr Hilary said in response: “Yes, absolutely. 

“He should have been wearing a mask.

“You should be setting an example.

“Especially in a hospital where today’s headlines scream 11,600 People caught COVID in a hospital.

“Prime Minister goes in there without a mask. 

“It’s ridiculous and nobody had the guts to say ‘Prime Minister, put a mask on and you can’t come in’.”


He added: “That’s what should have happened.”

Boris Johnson was seen maskless in Hexham hospital in Northumberland on Monday amid concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

He was seen walking along a corridor in the hospital and elbow-bumping medical staff who wore blue face coverings.

A source said the Prime Minister had just left a meeting where he was speaking, and put on a mask shortly afterwards.

No.10 is expected to announce that frontline NHS England staff will now have to be fully vaccinated against Covid.

Chris Hopson, head of NHS Providers said between 80,000 and 100,000 NHS workers in England were unvaccinated. 

Health Secretary  Sajid Javid has also urged the public to get a booster.

He said: “For those not yet eligible, please help your parents, grandparents or vulnerable loved ones get their jabs – it could save their life.

“This truly is a national mission.”
