Former Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan has a major new role following his exit from the ITV soap, it has been revealed.

Jack joined the Manchester-base soap as bad boy Jacob Hay in 2021. Over the years he straightened himself out, eventually finding love with Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

However, things took a dark turn when evil dad Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) arrived, and chased him off the street for good earlier this year.

The actor told us that it ‘felt like the right time to leave the show’ but that it was ‘a really hard decision’.

When asked what he had planned next, he wasn’t giving much away.

‘I’m going to do that really annoying thing that actors do where they tease something that they can’t really talk about! I have booked a job. I’m really, really excited for it.

‘I start filming next month and I’ll be filming for the next four months on that. So, yeah, I’m really excited! I can’t say anything more but as soon as I can, I can’t wait to reveal what I’m doing.’

Well, folks, you’ll all be pleased to know that we have the details for you now!

Filming has begun on a new six-part darkly comic thriller for ITV, called Passenger, and the former Corrie star has bagged himself a part.

He will take on the role of John Trowbridge, a member of the close-knit community that is sent spinning on its axis following a series of strange and unnatural crimes, in the small Northern village of Chadder Vale.

Jack isn’t the only former Corrie star to be joining the cast, as he is joined by Matilda Freeman, who will be playing Lilly Wells.

Matilda played Summer Spellman in Corrie between 2017 and 2020, when the character was recast, with Harriet Bibby taking on the role.

She explained to fans that she left because she wanted ‘to be able to work on other shows, films and projects’.

She revealed that, ‘when you work at Corrie you’re under a contract which means you can’t work on anything else while you’re there – so it was quite limiting.’

There is not yet an air date for the new thriller, but there is one thing we do know – we can’t wait to tune in!
