Dan Walker and Louise Minchin regularly present BBC Breakfast on Monday to Wednesday, however, Jon Kay was on hand to host the latest show. Dan admitted to “deserting” Louise on her birthday so he could play golf and prepare for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Dan, 44, took to Twitter to wish his colleague Louise a happy birthday as he could not see her in person due to other commitments.

He tweeted: “Happy birthday to the magnificent @louiseminchin … who I have deserted to play in the @BMWPGA pro-am and do some #Strictly stuff #BBCBreakfast.”

The presenter is currently working on the BMW PGA Championship and was recently announced as a contestant on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

While it has not yet been revealed who Dan will be partnered up with on the BBC One show, he made it clear in his tweet that preparations for the show are underway.

Strictly Come Dancing is returning to screen this month and will run up until the Christmas period.

Over the past few weeks, the BBC has slowly been revealing this year’s line-up for Strictly.

Some of the celebrities taking part include Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, Gordan Ramsey’s daughter Tilly Ramsay and CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson.

With all 15 stars now announced, viewers have been waiting for the release date to be announced so they can pencil it into their diaries.
