Love Island took a moment to address Sherif Lanre’s shock exit from the show.
Sherif, 20, decided to leave the villa after speaking to producers, having apparently broken the rules.
It wasn’t mentioned which rule Sherif is said to have broken, and it looks like we will never know as the episode that aired after his exit glossed over the details.
Sherif was seen chatting with other islanders at a party in the evening in the first half, and his absence from the rest of the episode was mentioned after the final advert break of the night.
Narrator Iain Stirling said: ‘Earlier today, following conversations with producers Sherif left the villa. But for the other islanders it’s another day in paradise.’
There was no further explanation, or big goodbye or scenes of him wheeling his suitcase up the gravel drive.
Understandably the lack of information has left many viewers frustrated and flocked to social media to demand answers.
A Love Island spokesperson announced the news in a statement, which read: ‘After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.’
Sherif said in a statement: ‘In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.
‘I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way, and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.
‘I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.’
A TV insider told The Mirror that Sherif knew ‘immediately’ that he would have to leave the villa over his unexplained actions.
The source told The Mirror: ‘Sherif made a silly mistake and was immediately summoned to the Beach Hut – it wasn’t a criminal matter and he was spoken to and agreed to leave.
‘Sherif knew he had to leave immediately after being called to the Beach Hut. No security were involved.’
During his time in the villa, he was coupled up with 28-year-old Anna Vakili. Viewers had seen their relationship heating up recently as the pair shared a kiss.
Love Island airs weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
