Money Heist will be returning with its fifth and final season on Netflix as viewers finally find out what happens at the end of the series. However, one thing fans have been speculating about is whether Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso) may somehow be revealed as alive.
Did Berlin secretly survive in Money Heist?
Berlin is one of the most controversial characters in the Spanish hit series Money Heist.
Some fans love his charismatic and conniving nature while others view him as the violent criminal he is.
As a result, when he was killed off at the end of season two, his death caused ruptions among fans.
While he continued to appear in flashbacks, there has been a lot of speculation since about what really happened.
Express.co.uk has rounded up some of the biggest theories and what they have revealed.
Berlin was wearing a bulletproof vest
When it was first revealed Berlin was coming back for the third season of the show, many began speculating about if he survived.
One major theory was how he might have worn a bulletproof vest during the scene where he was shot by the police.
As a result of this, he might have been able to survive the multiple shots aimed at him.
Posting on Reddit, Developer2003 wrote: “My theory is that he might not be dead because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.
“Also they don’t show what happened to that girl so maybe that’s related?”
As well as this, user MysticToastsy pointed out: “People can be shot 20 times and still live so maybe he was lucky enough that maybe none of the shots hit him in a critical place in the body.”
Berlin is Alicia Sierra’s ex-husband
Another theory, which seemingly confirms Berlin’s survival for some fans, is down to his links to Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).
There are a lot of ideas about this, including how Sierra may even be linked to Berlin’s ex-wife Tatiana (Diana Gomez) given how similar they look.
However, the biggest hint was seemingly dropped in season four when Sierra gave a speech about her ex-husband German.
During this, she revealed how her partner had died after a terminal illness, just like the one Berlin had.

The fact he was called German also left wondering if this was a subtle nod to Berlin as well.
If they were the same person, this will have meant Berlin had somehow survived the shooting at the end of series two.
Of course, during her speech, Sierra confirms her husband is now dead.
So for Berlin to have survived, she would have also had to have been lying about this.
Berlin’s clue to Palermo
The final clue some viewers noticed came in the recent season four as well.
In the last episode, Berlin said an emotional goodbye to Palermo, telling him he loved him but could not see him any more.
However, in his parting words, he said: “Goodbye my friend. I’m confident that one way or another, time will bring us back together.”
The ominous prediction might have led some to believe Berlin might appear to Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna) once again.
Although another reading of the moment could actually imply Palermo could be in the firing line in the final season.
Therefore, while many of these fan theories are quite far-fetched, it seems like there is a lot left for La Casa de Papel to answer when it comes back.
Money Heist seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
