Matt Reeves’ highly-anticipated 2022 film, The Batman, will star three popular villains from the Rogues Gallery.

Robert Pattinson’s Batman will go up against Paul Dano’s Riddler/Edward Nashton, the main antagonist in the film. This will mark the Riddler’s first appearance in a live action Batman film since Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever (1995), which starred Jim Carrey as the iconic villain.

The Batman also stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Colin Farrell as Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot. The Penguin’s last live action film appearance was Batman Returns (1992), with Danny DeVito starring alongside Michael Keaton (Batman/Bruce Wayne) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Catwoman/Selina Kyle) in Tim Burton’s blockbuster.

Another popular Batman villain, Firefly, has never appeared in a live action film. The character has received more attention in recent years, appearing as a main villain in the Batman: Arkham Origins (2013) and Batman: Arkham Knight (2015) video games as well as the critically-acclaimed Gotham television series on FOX (played by Michelle Veintimilla).

Whether or not Reeves decides to include Firefly in his Batman universe remains to be seen. But thanks to some incredible fan art from digital artist bosslogic, we can at least have some fun in imagining what the character would look like in The Batman:

Firefly is a pyromaniac -protected by a fireproof suit – who uses a jet pack and a flamethrower to wreak havoc across the Gotham City.

Christopher Nolan’s trilogy had a heavy focus on primary Rogues Gallery villains in Scarecrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Joker, Two-Face and Bane. The Batman: Arkham video game series gave plenty of attention to other villains who haven’t been used in live action Batman films such as Killer Croc, Clayface, Firefly, Deadshot, Solomon Grundy and Hugo Strange.

Many of these characters were also featured in Gotham, and their popularity has only increased over time. Perhaps Reeves will look to give some of these other villains some attention in his Batman movie series. Only time will tell.
