Last week Jamie Laing impressed the Strictly Come Dancing judges after showing improvement with his technical skills as he performed the American Smooth to Night and Day with professional partner Karen Hauer. The pair achieved a score of 17 for the routine, which was three points higher than the previous week. Jamie ended up in the dreaded dance-off against Jacqui Smith but was fortunately saved by the judges. But reflecting on his improvement, Karen said he’d turned into a “beautiful swan”.

Joining Zoe Ball on spin-off show It Takes Two, Jamie admitted that despite improving, he still didn’t have a clue what all the technical terms meant.

Jamie commented: “This time it’s about the swivel. I don’t understand.

“What’s the swivel? I don’t get it.”

Zoe went on to note: “But Karen, he was oozing confidence it seemed to me going out on the floor.

“Motsi was so impressed by the lines, the fingers, I mean, have you turned a corner.

“Can you feeling it coming Karen?”

“Absolutely,” the professional remarked. “I mean he is suddenly turning into a little swan.

“From a little duck into a little swan.”

Jamie interrupted: “Have I been an ugly duckling?”

“Absolutely, you were,” Karen told him, before apologising. “I’m sorry. I’ve done my job.

“But he really focussed on his lines and I guess it came naturally to him as well.

“There were certain things I tried to focus on that were more natural but yeah, you looked very suave and I was very proud of him.”

Also on It Takes Two, Karen revealed she’d suffered a hand injury.

Zoe asked: “Hand in a bandage? Is it okay? What have you done?”

“Ah yeah just a little candle burn,” Karen explained showing off her bandaged hand.

Turning to Jamie, Zoe demanded to know: “Is that your fault as well?”

“I’m okay,” Karen assured the presenter as Jamie joked: “She’s just ruined our sympathy vote. what are we going to do now?”

Karen faked pain as she told him: “I’m sorry! Please vote for us.”

Tonight, the pair will be dancing the Charleston in a Hercules-inspired routine – will they manage to avoid the dance-off?

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight on BBC One at 7.25pm.
