The Handmaid’s Tale season three is officially back on our screens with Hulu having aired the first four episodes. The dystopian series is back in Gilead as we see June Osbourne (played by Elisabeth Moss) preparing to take on the state. But what happened in season three, episode four?

What happened in The Handmaid’s Tale season 3, episode 4?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 episode 4

The episode opens with a celebration of children born in the district Gilead, as we see the Wives enter with their babies.

This moment is contrasted with a flashback of when June (played by Elisabeth Moss) baptised Hannah (Jordana Blake).

In the flashback we see her mother (Cherry Jones) warn her against it, mentioning the dangers of religion.

After the ceremony, there is a celebration at Mrs Putnam’s (Ever Carradine) house, which all of the handmaids and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) attend.

At the celebration, June approaches Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) and attempts to see if she can convince her to take on a more powerful role among the wives.

We also see Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) approach Serena who refuses to talk to him.

One of the more visually impressive scenes follows as we see June and Serena meet by the pool.

During the scene, June tries to convince Serena to take more of a position of power.

June says to her: “The Commander wants to reconcile, you have influence.”

To which, Serena replies: “To a point” and June responds: “So move the point.”

Later that night, we are at Mrs Putnam’s house and Janine (Madeline Brewer) is able to see her baby for the first time in a while.

She approaches Mrs. Putnam and asks to hold the baby, which she is allowed to do.

Janine then asks if she is able to be come back to house and serve as a Handmaid.

But, Aunt Lydia reacts extremely badly to this and strikes Janine.

June jumps to protect her from Aunt Lydia at this moment.

Later in the episode, June has to reveal to Serena and Commander Waterford that her husband Luke (O-T Fagbenle) has baby Nichole in Canada.

Viewers then saw Luke and Moira (Samira Wiley) baptise Nichole in Canada.

During the episode, viewers also get to see what is happening with Emily’s (Alexis Bledel) story in Canada.

We get to see her in a reunion with her wife Sylvia (Clea DuVall) and her son.

The scene is an emotional moment for all involved as Emily reads a book to her son.

The promo for episode five seems to show a reunion of sorts on the cards for June and Luke.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 continues on Wednesdays on Hulu on and on Channel 4 on June 9 at 9pm
