The Walking Dead’s loyal fans are eagerly awaiting the release of season 11 after the cliffhanger finale appeared to set up a new storyline for Negan Smith (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Ahead of the release, actress Christian Serratos who plays Rosita opened up about her skills on set.

The season finale gave viewers an in-depth look into Negan’s life before the apocalypse.

In the flashback episode, fans were transported to 12 years prior and learned how his wife Lucille (Hilarie Burton Morgan) died.

Throughout the series, Negan shared pieces about his wife having pancreatic cancer but, in this flashback, the couple made it seven months into the apocalypse before her demise.

They accidentally defrosted the rest of her medication and, despite Lucille’s protests, Negan went to find a rumoured clinic.

Six weeks after being given the medication, Negan found his wife with her head in a bag and three empty pill bottles. He was then approached by Lucille’s zombie and, instead of beating it to death, lit the entire house on fire.

Elsewhere in the last season, a new threat called The Reapers emerged, threatening the lives of the remaining survivors.

Another person on a mission to save their lives was Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), who joined a group of survivors in Dallas, Texas during the outbreak.

This was where she learned essential skills, which paired well with her military experience and engineering knowledge.

While on her journey to Washington DC, she was joined by Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) after meeting them in Texas.

The group were on their way to Alexandria Safe-Zone, which housed other survivors in four joined communities.

Despite the destruction to their surroundings, Rosita and Eugene fall in love and eventually marry.

The couple’s relationship became more strained when it was revealed that she was pregnant with Saddiq’s (Avi Nash) baby.

After Eugene’s death in season six, Rosita was forced to continue on her fight to stay alive while evading the dead with her young daughter, Socorro ‘Coco’ Espinosa.

With what appears to be a never-ending amount of running and fighting for their lives, Rosita star Christian Serratos was asked about her preparation for the role.

In an interview with ComicCon at home, the actress was questioned about her approach to the fighting scenes and if it had changed over the years.

In her response, she laughed and said: “No, I just try to look proficient in whatever I do and not faint and that’s all we can do.”

As one of the longest appearing characters in the show, Rosita appeared in the recent first look photos released by AMC.

Alongside Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), Lydia (Cassady McClincy) and Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) the women were in the subway battling the dead.

After going on a mission for supplies, the women came face-to-face with the Reapers, while the zombie were waiting for them above ground.

The Walking Dead season 11 premieres on AMC in the USA on August 22 and will be available to watch on Star via Disney+ in the UK on August 23.
