Love Island fans all across the country are still trying to figure out why contestant Sherif Lanre was booted out of the villa this week.
ITV bosses have said the 20-year-old ‘broke the rules’ but have not provided any other details about what happened.
Several rumours are circulating online – from a fight with Anton Danyluk to using his phone and spending long periods of time in the shower – but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Sherif’s exit only got the briefest mention by narrator Iain Stirling in last night’s episode.
Now former contestant Wes Nelson has weighed in on the incident saying he believes Sherif was removed due to fighting.
Speaking on the Capital Breakfast show with Roman Kemp, Vick Hope and Sonny Jay this morning, Wes, 21, said: ‘You obviously can’t fight, you can’t be aggressive before Islanders or producers.’
Before adding: ‘I personally think that’s what it is [the rule that has been broken resulting in Sherif leaving the villa].
‘It’s all up in the air at the moment but I’m sure we’ll get the tea when it spills. I’ll be after that. I’ll be hunting!’
Wes’ ex Megan Barton Hanson also believes Sherif ‘did something serious’ to be axed from the show.
In the wake of his expulsion from the ITV2 show Sherif released a statement admitting he ‘regrets his action.
He said: ‘In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.
‘I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.’
On the villa rules, Wes said there are ‘quite a few’ and the producers are strict about enforcing them.
‘Yeah you are briefed when you go in, there is quite a few rules. You can’t talk about previous Islanders or any scenarios that have ever happened before in previous series.
So they wouldn’t be able to use DBS (Do Bits Society),’ he explained.
He also shed some light on the rule about not mentioning anything that’s going on in the outside world, such as the World Cup last year.
‘Yeah, fuming about that. Me and Josh tried to crack everyone, it wasn’t happening,’ he admitted.
Love Island continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
Tune into Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, week days from 6am – 10am across the UK.
