Where is The Tower set?

Crime writer Kate London’s first novel, Post Mortem, has been adapted for the small screen and the series is made up of three episodes.

The series opens with a veteran police officer and a teenage girl falling to their deaths from the top of a tower block in South East London.

Two people remain alive on the roof – rookie police officer Lizzie Adama (Tahirah Sharif) and a five-year-old boy.

DS Sarah Collins (Gemma Whelan) is then tasked with finding out what happened on the roof.

After officer Lizzie suddenly disappears, there is more than one mystery to solve.

Author Kate London is a former Met Police Officer herself, who worked as part of a Major Investigation Team on the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

London was keen to focus on the antagonistic relationship between Sergeant Sarah Collins and novice cop Lizzie Adama.

When the truth of what happened at the top of the tower is revealed, it will impact both of their lives forever.

The experienced sergeant’s priorities are finding out why only two people made it out of the tragic incident alive.

The three-part series will air on consecutive days this week, with the final airing on Wednesday, November 10.

Where is The Tower filmed?

Although the series is set in southeast London, it was actually filmed in Liverpool and Manchester.

Some shots were also filmed in Cheshire, including a funeral scene at Runcorn Cemetery.

Star Emmett Scanlan, who plays Kieran Shaw in the series, said he enjoyed being back in Liverpool.

He said: “Yeah, that was interesting. I was either filming in Liverpool or Manchester so frequenting streets that I used to frequent back in 2010 {while appearing on Hollyoaks].

“That was definitely a trip down memory lane. I don’t really mind where I’m filming so long as I’m filming.

“I’m usually my happiest when I’m on set and we get to play, get to dance, get to make believe.

“It’s the creative process that’s important to me.”

Scanlan said some of the scenes were filmed at the renowned Tatton Park in Knutsford.

The crew could also be spotted in Warrington, and Seacombe Ferry Terminal.

Writer and executive producer Patrick Harbinson discussed his favourite day of filming.

He said it was the one day writer Kate London and police adviser Claire Job were both on set.

He added: “I watched these two real police officers watching our pretend police officers Gemma and Tahirah as they thrust and parried and fought.

“And I realised that both Kate and Claire were completely gripped. That’s when I thought, well, we might have something here…That was a good day.”

This day of filming included an interview scene between Sarah and Lizzie and it is pivotal to Sarah’s whole investigation.

The series focuses on the turbulent relationship between these two polar-opposite characters.

The Tower begins on Monday, November 8 on ITV at 9pm.
