Yellowstone is the US drama series starring Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes. The series is set on the fictional Dutton Ranch in Montana but is the upcoming series being filmed in Texas? Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.

Is Yellowstone season 4 being filmed in Texas?

Season four of Yellowstone was given the green light in February 2020 ahead of the show’s first series.

Filming for Yellowstone season four began in August in Montana.

The past three seasons of Yellowstone have been filmed in both and Utah, with the majority of filming taking place on the Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby, Montana.

Early in August, The Chief Joseph Ranch Instagram account posted a picture of the entrance to the ranch.

The caption under the photo read: “Welcome to the first day of filming for season four! Despite COVID-19*, we are fortunate to have Paramount back for another great season of filming in the valley. Did you know all of the filmings will take place in Montana this year?

“*Full medical precautions are being taken on set.”

The fourth series of the show will be filmed exclusively on location in Montana, reported The Salt Lake Tribune.

However, Yellowstone fans believe they have spotted Yellowstone filming in Texas, US.

Yellowstone fans on Reddit and Texas Radio Station, Amarillo Country Radio website, Bullamarillo.com reported the ‘2nd unit’ of Yellowstone had been shooting scenes on the Four Sixes Ranch (6666) and in and around the Borger area.

Reddit user trev1535 posted a picture of a sign which read “2ND Unit”
alongside the Yellowstone symbol with an arrow pointing into the 6666 Ranch.

The user posted: “Yellowstone is filming at 6666 Ranch in the Texas Panhandle. Anyone have any insight into this???”

One fan responded: “2nd unit could mean it’s probably just establishing exterior shots. Easy to do with a smaller camera crew, and doesn’t require a cast, wardrobe hair/makeup etc.”

Another user said: “Someone said a horse ‘metallic cat’ won an auction for charity and the prize was being in an episode of Yellowstone.

“The horse doesn’t travel. There is speculation that this is what’s being filmed here — the horse scenes.

“Also, someone said they saw Rip at a pizza place in Borger.”

A third fan, Which_Audience_2496 added: “They are doing some filming with the cattle and horses. The actors were not there.

“Security states that only a film crew is there. ALL the actors are filming in Montana

The 6666 Ranch today consists of two main ranches, the Four Sixes Ranch near Guthrie and the Dixon Creek Ranch near Panhandle, a total of 260,000 acres.

The historic ranch is situated in King County, Texas as well as Carson County and Hutchinson County.

The ranch was established by Captain Samuel Burk Burnett in 1900 after he purchased the land from the Louisville Land and Cattle Company.

The name of the ranch, 6666 Ranch, derives from the legendary tale Burnett won the ranch after playing a card game, where he scored four sixes.

In 1980, the ranch was passed onto his great-granddaughter, Anne Windfohr Marion and his great-great-granddaughter, Wendi Grimes.

Today, the ranch is managed by Marion and her husband, John L Marion.

Sadly, none of the show’s main actors have been spotted in the area.

Therefore, there is a huge possibility the locations in Texas may be simply used as exterior shots in the new series.

Yellowstone fans may also be interested to know the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, lived in rural parts of Texas and Wyoming and purposely set the series in Montana.

She currently lives in Weatherford, Texas and is the owner of a working cattle ranch.
