Garrett Randall (played by Will Patton) may have only been a major player in the world of Yellowstone for a little over a season, but it’s safe to say Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) biological father made quite the impact. Over the course of season four, Paramount Network viewers witnessed Garrett try to manipulate his son against his adoptive family and it was even revealed he was behind the assassination attempts on John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and his children in season three.

However, his time on the hit drama came to an emotional close as he was shot and killed by Jamie – after the Governor hopeful was blackmailed by his sister Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).

Beth had come to the realisation that Jamie knew his biological father was behind the attacks on not just her, but brother Kayce (Luke Grimes) and father John.

When she burst into his office to confront him about the betrayal, Beth assaulted Jamie and lambasted him for not killing Garrett right away for what he tried to do to the Duttons.

With the truth now in the open, Jamie was left on his knees begging his adoptive sister not to tell the family – which in itself would be a death sentence as Rip (Cole Hauser) and John would undoubtedly be after him.

Beth offered Jamie three options; she would have Garrett and Jamie arrested, Rip could learn the truth and undoubtedly seek out Jamie and Garrett for what he did to his now-wife, or Jamie could kill his own father.

Seemingly thinking about himself, Jamie opted for the latter and in an emotionally-charged scene, shot his own dad.

“Don’t you let those f**king Duttons deceive you into thinking you’re a bad man,” Garrett said in his final moments. “You’re a good man, son, and I love you.”

“I love you too, Dad,” Jamie said before pulling the trigger and driving his father’s body to the Yellowstone’s famous “train station”.

However, when dumping his father’s body at the Dutton’s favourite graveyard, Beth was on hand to photograph him in the act, giving dad John the perfect ammunition to keep Jamie wrapped around his finger.

“Now you own him,” Beth told her father after showing him the snap of Jamie dumping Garrett at the “train station”.

However, while Garrett’s demise and Jamie’s place with the Duttons tees up a tantalising fifth season, some fans were left scratching their heads about the details of the plotline.

Many are convinced there is a plot hole in the story as neither Jamie nor Beth had known about the “train station” previously.

What did Kayce see in his vision in Yellowstone season 4 finale?

The only characters aware of the body dumping site to fans’ knowledge is John, Rip, Kayce and Lloyd (Forrie J Smith) – Walker (Ryan Bingham) was taken there by Kayce but it’s unclear if he knew the significance of the location as the youngest Dutton let him live.

And this hasn’t gone unnoticed as several of the Yellowstone fandom took to the web to express their dismay.

On Reddit, user libbyang98 pointed out: “My one complaint with Option 3, how would Jamie or Beth know about the Train Station? I’d imagine John would want plausible deniability for both his lawyer & his sword.”

Fellow Redditor irregardlesslike also pointed out Jamie would likely have used the “train station” after he’d murdered journalist Sarah Nguyen (Michaela Conlin) if he’d known about it.

“Couple of things: Jamie strangled a reporter with his bare hands then set her off in the kayak. What ever happened to that?” They said. “And, if Jamie knew about the train station, it might have been better to float the kayak and then dump the body at the train station.”

The complaints continued on Twitter, with viewer Jimmy Reece arguing: “So how does Beth or Jamie even know about the train station? Even though she took a photograph of dumping the body wouldn’t they also find all the Dutton bodies at the bottom of the cliff also?”

And @ThomasStrimbu agreed: “Why would Beth even know about the train station. Rip would never tell her.”

While Steven Montelongo even addressed another possible error with the whole thing: “There was a serious plot hole in Yellowstone last night.

“How did Beth know when to get to the train station at the exact time Jamie was dumping the body of his father and not be seen. She had to drive there but Jamie didn’t see her car? Beth needs a better storyline.” (sic)

Yellowstone seasons 1-4 are available to stream on the Paramount Network in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
