For three seasons on the Paramount Network, Yellowstone fans have witnessed Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) stop at nothing to protect wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and son Tate (Brecken Merrill). Of course, this has been easier said than done as the Dutton family face their fair share of murderous and scheming enemies, making for some gripping and tense scenes on-screen. However, actor Merrill has now revealed there was one father and son scene that didn’t make it into the series via his Instagram.

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Merrill shared a series of snaps alongside Grimes from a moment fans never got to see.

In them, Tate and Kayce can be seen enjoying an ice cream from the “transplant scene” – as Merrill describes it – from the series pilot.

However, the scene from the very first episode fans got to see was reshot as Merrill revealed a series of “bloopers” he’d made forced the moment to be filmed again.

Alongside the pictures, he explained to his 27.5k Instagram followers: “It’s #yellowstonetv Sunday! Today is another glimpse of a scene that never aired.”

He continued: “This first pic is from the much loved ‘transplant’ scene. It was shot in downtown Ogden, Utah.

“The rest of the pics are from the *first* time we shot the scene outside a real estate office in Heber.

“There were various reasons they decided to reshoot the scene. One reason was because I hadn’t quite mastered scene continuity and my ice cream cone kept magically switching hands [smile emoji].

“Shout out to our talented editing team who catch our bloopers and make us look good!” he added.

The Yellowstone star concluded the post with a series of hashtags: “#icecream #duttonranch #transplants #childactor #bunkhouseboys #letsgotowork #eatingonthejob #bts #yellowstoneseason1 #fatherandson.”

The scene which made it to air set the precedent for the adorable father and son bond the two would possess as the series progressed.

However, heading into season four, it looks likely the Dutton duo – and the rest of the family – face their biggest test yet.

This is thanks to the third season finale which has left Kayce’s life hanging in the balance.

As the third season drew to a close, Kayce, his father John (Kevin Costner) and sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) were all victims of assassination attempts.

John was mowed down by assault rifle fire on a roadside, Beth was in the middle of an explosion at work, while Kayce was ambushed in his office by gun-wielding hitmen.

But before Paramount viewers could learn the fates of the three Dutton family members, the season ended, teeing up a tantalising fourth run.

Meanwhile, Tate and mum Monica are left at the Yellowstone ranch, with Kayce’s wife being on the phone with him at the time the gunmen entered his office.

While Kayce and the rest of his family have faced formidable enemies like the Beck brothers before, the shootings may be their biggest challenge yet.

Especially as it’s still up in the air as to who was responsible for the attacks.

As it stands, the likes of Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), Market Equities and Roarke (Josh Holloway) all seem in the frame for orchestrating the shootings and explosions.

But fans will have to wait until Yellowstone season four premieres to find out if Kayce survives and if he, Tate and the rest of the Duttons can get revenge on their family’s attackers.

Yellowstone season 4 premieres on Paramount Network in the USA this autumn. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
