The mum of tragic Archie Battersbee described how proud she is of him as the boy's tragic death was announced.

This evening she released a new photo of her son, hours after his life support was withdrawn following a prolonged legal battle.

The 12-year-old had been in a coma since he was found unconscious by his mother Hollie Dance in April, and he was being kept alive by a complex programme of medical interventions, including ventilation and drug treatments.

Mum Hollie said outside the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, this afternoon that Archie "fought right until the very end".

She said: "In sadness, Archie passed at 12.15pm today.

"I would just like to say I am the proudest mum in the world.
