The cause of death of a four-year-old boy found dead in a freezer has been revealed by a coroner.

Mason Dominquez was found in his mum’s garage in February after she’d had given his sister a note to smuggle to her teachers. The note said she was being held hostage and she feared her lad was dead.

On Wednesday, the Clark County Office of the Medical Examiner announced that the youngster died from blunt force injuries at the house which is 10 miles north-east of the Strip in Las Vegas, reports the Mirror.

It was reported at the time that the girl’s teacher immediately called the police, who began to watch their house, which is in Saddle Brook Park Drive in the north-east of the city.

They swooped to pick up the mother and her boyfriend when the pair headed out at about 10am, and officers made the grim discovery of Mason’s body in the freezer during their subsequent search of the property.

It’s now been revealed that he’d been "hidden under a false cardboard bottom and under multiple items of food".

Brandon Toseland, the mum’s boyfriend, has been charged with multiple crimes, including murder, child abuse, neglect or endangerment resulting in substantial bodily harm, kidnapping of a minor resulting in substantial bodily harm, and domestic violence by strangulation.

The woman told police that Toseland, 35, had locked Mason in the master bedroom of their home after the boy had fallen ill in early December.

According to the arrest report, Toseland eventually admitted to his girlfriend that her son was dead, but said it was an accident.

After he’d made that confession, she said he took her mobile phone and “would handcuff her inside the vehicle and if they ever left the home”, the report said.

Cops don’t suspect the woman to be involved in Mason’s death but Lt Ray Spencer admitted: “There are a lot of questions that we still have to answer about what occurred over the last three months."

According to a GoFundMe page set up to cover Mason’s funeral costs, his father died last year from pneumonia.

The fundraiser for Mason is aimed at buying the burial plot next to his dad’s.
