Health secretary Sajid Javid has warned that Covid passes will soon require users to have had two vaccine doses and a booster, rather than just two doses.

He added that the change would come in as soon as all adults have had a "reasonable chance" to get up-to-date with their jabs.

"Once all adults have had a reasonable chance to get their booster jab, he told the House of Commons today, "we intend to change this exemption [from showing a LFT for nightclub] to require a booster dose"

On Sunday night Boris Johnson addressed the nation in a special pre-recorded TV broadcast and warned that the UK "is now facing an emergency" in the battle against the Omicron variant.

He urged every single adult to take up the booster jabs offer sooner rather than later as part of an "Emergency Omicron Boost".

As part of that effort, everyone over the age of 18 will be offered a booster jab before New Year's Day – bringing the previous deadline of the end of January 2022 forward by a whole month.

Health chiefs and GPs have expressed their surprise at the new measures, saying that the NHS isn't prepared for such an ambitious rollout.
